Delvene Cockatoo-Collins Art

I had the honour to join Delvene on her Island Tour. I have learned so much new things about the history of the island. It was heart-warming to hear how close the community can be and look after each other. Delvene showed me beautiful art and learned me how to harvest fibres from the Cotton tree to use for weaving. I left the island with much better understanding of the past and the future of this beautiful island.

Just over Ten years ago I purchased some beautiful linen from a young local woman selling her first pieces at the markets on Minjerribah North Stradbroke Island. Her name is Delvene Cockatoo_Collins. She told me of her Story and the inspiration behind her handmade designs and her Connection to country…Today I wandered to see Delvene’s studio in Dunwich Goompi to re-visit her art and designs. Today I had the pleasure of going with Delvene on one of her walking tours of Dunwich. She showed me the island's natural beauty and important public art works, and told me some of her stories from the island, passed on to her by her mother, and her mother before her back through time. It was a true privilege to see Minjerribah through First Nations eyes. Delvene was generous enough to show me how she gathers materials for her art practice, and taught me some weaving - it was so profoundly peaceful. I would recommend this to anyone, as well as a visit to Delvene's studio in Dunwich featuring her beautiful artworks, so worth seeking out if you don't have time for a wander.

My wife purchased a echidna print. It Duly arrived but due to poor packaging it was ripped by me on opening. Nothing I or any one can do about it now. but please review your packaging capabilities as the poster was not separated from packaging. Now adorns a bin☹️

I just had the most beautiful experience. Meeting Mikayla in the store, hearing stories and her sharing the details behind her Aunty Delven’s beautiful artwork. I will be back to purchase more treasures. Thank you for sharing your culture and heritage x

What an amazing experience and day at Delvene’s Cultural Walk & Tour. A wonderful relaxed and grounding morning on Quandamooka Country.Loved the drink & pastry stop at CJ’s. We met some locals while on the tour and saw some very special places and art on the walk.Highly recommend this tour.
