The facilities and rooms are beautiful and carers are great, they are doing their best and i feel comfortable my mum is being looked after.

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!The Memory Support Unit at Caulfield does not provide empathetic specialised care for the most vulnerable dementia patients. Unless your loved one can get themselves to the toilet and sit down for meals there is no real support for those who cannot. Carers are not properly trained to recognise the varying characteristics of dementia nor how to find methods to interact and engage with even the most difficult residents. Agency staff are used most commonly which does not allow for relationship building. They sit on their phones or watch tv thinking they are just there to babysit, waiting for their shifts to end and leaving residents wanting. Meals do not revolve around the residents' habits only set times and nobody to provide meals for late risers(or unwoken residents)- a bikkie and water to suffice? Heating is turned up to tropical temperatures dehydrating the residents and displaced clothing and keepsakes left lying around the corridors for others to possess. Uncleaned surfaces and food are left on the floor for potential falling hazards. My mother, who is diagnosed with moderate to severe Alzheimers endured a week of neglect; meals not provided, soiled pants unchanged, clothes unchanged constantly, dirty bed sheets for days, not included in lifestyle activities, blamed for her behaviour and her well being deteriorating before my eyes. There are no failsafe procedures to ensure your loved ones thrive as best as possible for as long as possible. A brand new 16 bed Memory Support Unit currently only half full and they failed my mother epically.AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!
