The service was above and beyond! The place has a fantastic vibe. We had the most enjoyable lunch with family and friends. It felt warm, relaxed, and first rate at the same time. The food was of exceptional quality. The flavours were divine. A lot care for the details was taken. Fantastic advise from staff on wine. The restaurant's attitude towards wine and food really celebrated and helped us enjoy the area, Clare, that we had made the trip out to experience. Dietary requirements were taken at booking and then followed up with beautifully by staff when we arrived. Staff spoke personally to individuals about options and their recommendations were great.

As a person who has worked in several very high standard hospitality venues the service from the staff was very poor. It took atleast half an hour just to get water, we were not asked if we ready to order drinks or food, at any time while looking at the menu. After another half an hour my partner went to the bar to order drinks when they were delivered we managed to order the rest of the drinks. When we finally managed to get the attention of a waiter, he did not explain the procedure of the menu, was quite abrupt and not everybody could hear or understand him clearly.My partner ordered a Lamb Milanese Herb crusted with salad, which was actually a rather well done Lamb Schnitzel. If you don't know what Milanese is and google it, they explain that it is a Herb crusted meat Cutlet which was what he expected.The eye fillet that was ordered was practically Blue not Med rare as what was stated on our Menus. When the gentlemen went to pay the bill of $566, they were told it was $150/cpl that does not quite add up. One of the gentlemen who was not happy with his Lamb Schnitzel queried the price it went down to $140 then the owner decided he was going to charge $145.00. We were not asked if we enjoyed the meal or were there any problems at all. Very poor I'm afraid.

Can’t really complain about the service, it barely existed! Only 45 mins to get a drink. The best thing about the experience was the bread and butter. Prawns were way over cooked, salty and dry, the flathead was over cooked, over salted, an odd sour taste, and cold. The eye fillet was actually raw and cold on the middle. Then when you go to the toilet the toilet seats were on the floor next to the toilet, obviously not a new thing as part of the seat was on the shelf above it.. I suppose we could be thankful there was a toilet seat, not like the ladies. Pretty disappointed with the whole experience, wouldn’t recommend it

Two lovely friendly English backpackers that served us both gave wonderful service. The meals were way overpriced for what we got. Don't order the lkorean Lamb ribs dry. Wouldn't recommend this hotel for a meal . Pity as its lovely inside and the staff were friendly.Dont know how it won best pub in 2021 and 2022 of the year in South Australia. Had an Apple tart for dessert which was $17.00

So no recommend. I saw this place on an SA promotion show and loved the look of it and it was on my list to go. We were seated right next to a fire so one of us was overheated. The service was woeful, it was quicker to go to the bar for a drink. When finally served it seemed that the waiter was there to fill water but we asked about food, he had nothing to write our order down, then gave up and said would be back. Finally when served the food was not good. Oh the salad was great, as not much prep for that..the side of chips were heated in microwave, the seafood was over cooked, the steak was supposed to be med rare not blue, and if you knew how to cook steak it would not be sliced in half, broccoli cheese stunk, lamb malanese was leather type crumbed lamb snitty that was awful. Then having to visit the ladies room, there was no toilet seat! And no paper towels to dry hands. Unless the new way of doing things is sitting on the toilet bowl then well, I have no idea! Rude staff, and so disappointed.

Wow! After spending an amazing weekend in the Clare Valley to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we decided to have lunch at a local winery. Lucky us that they were booked out, so on our way home we dropped in to the Watervale hotel hoping that they were still serving meals on a Sunday afternoon. Fortunately for us I don't think there was a cut off time for serving meals. The staff were friendly and helpful - even the dog Frankie! The venue was amazing, beautifully renovated with a large outdoor beer garden. The wine list was huge, it should have come with a bookmark. They have gone all out with an extensive range of local wines including some unusual and intriguing blends. The food was incredible, high quality fine dining at its best. If you are after a pub schnitzel or salt & pepper squid then this is not the venue for you. I had the barramundi which was incredible. It is no wonder that the Chef and the venue have won numerous awards. If you want a fine dining experience with an extensive wine list in a beautiful environment then this place is highly recommended. I would love to come back in summer and enjoy the beer garden on a hot balmy night. I must reminder to thank the winery for turning us away for lunch!

Don't waste your time or money coming here. Myself and 7 friends had Lunch here yesterday. Service was virtually non existent. Overpriced. Food was nothing to rave about. Waited over half an hour before we even had a waiter come to our Table. I just wish I had read the reviews before coming as some of the responses Warrick has for customers clearly indicate he is in denial about what is important to his clients. My other friends all had the same opinions. To top it off Warrick rounded our bill up"I dare say Warrick will find it necessary to reply telling me I should be going to the Bakery instead of his fine dining Restaurant."

On a short trip to Clare Valley we visited twice. Once for supper and then again the next night for dessert.Calling this a pub doesn’t do it justice. The welcome, quality of food and overall level of enjoyment we had means this place is much more than ‘a hotel/ a pub’. I write to thank Warrick his wife and their team of friendly staff for two lovely evenings spent in this foodie spot. It’s clear that everyone cares about the guest experience.Fab food. Better service. You’d be mad not to go.
