Melbourne Piano School - Sam Colcheedas

Based on my musical background and experience, I am truly impressed by Sam Colcheedas, who is an extremely talented musician and pianist. My daughter has taken classes with Sam for one year and the difference is astounding. Sam's unique way of teaching is highly effective in making her learning process truly enjoyable. Sam has been really helping to shape her music and musicality with technique work, on pieces that she really enjoys playing. He is supportive, patient, encouraging and doesn't make her feel bad about making mistakes. He is not only teaching her techniques but also theory, musicality, effective practising and building repertoire. He is extremely professional, responsive and warm in his communication style. I give my highest recommendation to any level piano student that seeks tutoring in piano and theory.

Sam is a wonderful teacher to my two kids - he is personable and professional, but also patient and fun! He customises the songs my kids learn to keep them engaged and is also quite skilled at managing the shenanigans of my youngest who can be quite challenging at times! I highly recommend Sam as a great musician, teacher and role model!

Sam is a very very good piano teacher. I have learnt so much from him in the last 18 months. He has excellent techniques, is very good at teaching and diligently corrects the mistakes of his students. He is always kind, patient and dedicated. He takes the progress and success of his students very seriously. I would recommend Sam very highly to all piano learners, whether young or adults.

Sam is an excellent pianist and piano teacher. My daughter has taken classes with Sam for just seven months and she has made a lot of progress. Sam is very experienced and professional. He selects pieces my daughter enjoys playing. And also those pieces challenge her without completely overwhelming her. That’s really helpful to keep her motivated and interested. He helps her develop the techniques and knowledge she needs to be able to play those pieces. He is good at spotting problems, finding out why her problems occur, and always can give her useful tips or targeted exercises to help her successfully solve those problems. During our online classes, he is extremely patient and always trying to make sure she understands. He is a friendly, positive and dedicated teacher and he absolutely will have a lasting influence on my daughter’s musical learning journey.

Sam is the best piano teacher I have ever had. I used to play in my younger years , stopped and had a different life where piano was not part of it. Then I had a memory loss due to some health problems and decided to get back to playing the piano to basically give my brain the complex exercises the piano playing is. I have been learning from Sam since November 2015 and I am hoping to continue benefiting from his instructions for as long as it is possible. He possesses all the qualities that you are looking for in an excellent piano teacher. He is a very well educated pianist and he also can teach others to play and understand music. It is not the same to play piano and to teach others to play but Sam is the one who combines the both qualities. I am in my sixties and Sam is at the same age as my son - but during the time I know Sam I was never made to feel that age gap . He is very respectful, very professional, we have never had any problems with changing lesson time, no problems with payments, never misunderstanding over a change of the lesson's time or bookings for a make up lessons that couldn't happen due to unforeseen circumstances. And the most important is, that Sam can find a solutions to the problems I have with playing certain parts of music. He plays it for me so I can hear how it suppose to sound (very important and not the same as listening to the particular piece on Youtube) , he breaks it down to understandable or playable for me bits, he gives me exercises to make easier to my hands to do what I want them to do. I used to have lessons face to face, now I have them over Zoom and it makes it even easier for me as I live 120km away from Sam. Good communication makes it possible. And Sam can relate to people with ease. I have been to few of his concerts where he narrates with humour making them the pleasant music show.

Sam has been teaching me piano for the past two years. He's a patient, understanding, approachable teacher, and a very talented pianist. He guides me in improving my musical skills, and makes sure our lessons are enjoyable.I can see the huge improvements in my sight reading, aural and other abilities both theory and practical. He helped tutor me in my music VCE classes at school and enhanced my grades. Sam is just an amazing teacher and I highly recommend him :)

Couldn't recommend Sam highly enough!Our children have been enjoying piano lessons for almost 3 years now and above all we value Sam's considered and thoughtful approach to teaching piano. He is funny, calm and has an engaging manner with them both.Sam is a very patient and encouraging teacher. He has taken our son through 3 piano exam experiences, offering great advice and support whilst also helping our son develop confidence to explore his musicality further. This is a testament to the support that Sam has consistently offered and his ability to be very attentive to our son's own skills. Our younger daughter continues to prosper with her developing skills and he has encouraged exploration and enjoyment of her own musical style and genres as well as her accomplishments of exam preparation.We are so lucky to have him!
