The Hungry Hummingbird Cakes, Toppers & Balloons - Port Douglas

Just sharing our sheer disappointment on our daughters wedding day to not have the cake that we had ordered months in advance, after having no communication until we reached out to them, that we received a response. We were then told to collect the cake from another location and then we found out the cake was not what we ordered and was missing the wedding decorations! The quality of the cake was poor and still frozen when we tried to cut the cake for the ceremony. After advising Anthea of our dissatisfaction, we had to then follow up and was only offered a refund on the products we didn’t receive!Would not recommend this business, as this spoilt a very happy day and occasion.

My wife and sister in law ordered a cake on Monday for a joint 60th for the tuesday. If you want to give someone a cake that looks like it has been run over by a truck, then have to spend another hour making it look like something a cake shop should have provided in the first place go to this shop. Honestly a dry horrible cake with little to no taste. The photo of the cake alone is how we got it and the other photo is after we removed the excess icing and made it look like a cake with chocolate and fruit. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP!

The resort we were staying in highly recommended the Hungry Hummingbird and raved about the quality of their cakes.We were sceptical as we come from Melbourne but have to say we were so impressed with the flavour and quality of the design we only wish they opened a store back home.Anthea was so helpful and efficient!

Decided to take a chance & contact this store anyways despite the reviews.I’m glad I decided to drop my plans from ordering from this store - Communication from Anthea was indeed condescending & delayed.We walked past the store numerous times during our stay in Port & the store was constantly unkept & untidy.Seems like a business full of excuses.Customers don’t really care how busy you are. If you’re too busy to run a business/provide the service you’re supposed to, while keeping courteous standards up, choose your business or whatever else that’s keeping you busy from your business.

Unfortunately I would not recommended this cake business due to a very disappointing experience. I ordered a wedding cake from Anthea which included fresh floral flowers & a cake topper! Initial communication with Anthea was slow, however when booking my cake she assured that creating this cakes was no issue and assured me that she could provide these services! Issues then started to occur when I had to reach out to Anthea to organise actually picking up the cake because I hadn’t heard from her…she then instructed me to pay her as the pick up details would now change where I had to go to a garage and help myself to a fridge where my cake was left! This I found was extremely unprofessional! I then however opened my wedding cake at my reception to find I had been given a cake that was completely wrong and not what I had ordered. The semi naked cake looked horrible & NONE of the fresh flowers or cake topper had been included! To cover up this error…it appeared Anthea had covered the cake with a single, fake olive branch which looked like an absolute joke! The cake also appeared to be completely frozen, even after following instructions to defrost the cake 1 hour prior to the event…this made us question whether the cake was even fresh?Upon complaining to Anthea we received excuse after excuse & was only offered a refund on the items we didn’t receive. We will never order through Hungry Hummingbirds again after our recent experience.

Great to be on holidays and get a cake that caters for dietary requirements. It was lovely to have flexibility to design the cake. The the cake was delicious. It was moist and delivered a wonderful smile on the birthday girls face, both on seeing it and while eating. Well done team at THHB!

Excellent service, helped on the long weekend to organise a cake for a birthday party!!!

To begin with, this is not any sort of review bombing. I don’t know these people and it was my first time in Australia. This is my opinion based on my personal experience. It didn’t work for me, it may work for you. This review is just to share my personal experience and let others decide if they want to use this shop or not.We were visiting port Douglas from the US and chose this shop to get the cake for my daughter’s 4th birthday.They told me to pick up the cake anytime between 10 am and 2 pm. 10 am is when they open. The cake wasn’t ready when I got there at 10:10 am. I was told that people kept coming in to their shop and distracting them so because of that they weren’t able to get the cake ready in time. At that point I wondered if the shop opened at 10 am then, who bothered them so much in 10 minutes? And, if they had asked me to get the cake right at the time when the shop opened then they should have had it ready before opening the shop.I think they gave me some random excuse and didn’t do their job in time. In my opinion this is lack of professionalism and unacceptable.As far as the cake is concerned, I paid them extra $10 for the strawberry filling. In the name of strawberry filling they had put not more than 3 strawberries. I wasn’t expecting 20 but there should have been a decent amount at least. We didn’t find a lot of strawberries in the cake. The cake itself wasn’t tasty either. It was excessively sweet and we did not like it at all. It definitely didn’t meet our expectations.My rating is based on the quality of service (not respecting customer’s time and making me wait) and the quality of product delivered. For me, this shop failed in both vital aspects that a business should be very particular about. So they get 1 star only.In lieu of the above, I personally would not recommend this place.

Do not buy cakes from The Hungry Hummingbird. Anthea’s customer service & attitude is appalling & her products are NOT delivered as ordered!We had cakes & balloons ordered for a family dinner to celebrate 5 post-COVID birthdays.My order had not arrived in time for dinner and I had to call her an hour before our party started to find out what was happening. After a short text I was promised it would arrive in 20 minutes….. no apology!Literally 3 minutes before entering the restaurant our cake & balloons were delivered so we hastily put them up in our private function room before everyone arrived.The balloons were not assembled as ordered, the cake was not the flavor I had ordered nor the design and decorations that I paid for!!I waited for 3 days afterwards for an apology and got no correspondence/nothing from Anthea. So I went back to the shop to see her face to face and was instead met by her mother who started rambling on to me that ‘Anthea has 2 little babies & is super busy blah, blah’Obviously running a small business and managing children has gotten too hard & perhaps someone else should be running this business.I was so upset and disappointed particularly as I had gone through everything with her face to face the weeks before to make Sure our orders were correct & on time!!!After all of this I was offered a $20 refund…. Super offended as this probably only covers the delivery fee!DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SHOP!!!!

We engaged Hungry Hummingbird to make a cake for our daughter’s birthday. It was fantastic. So tasty, fresh and everyone wanted more than one serve. Very much recommended!
