Australians were lucky to be given a national public holiday last Thursday to mourn for the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II. My wife and I decided to give back to the community by doing some volunteering with #Ourbigkitchen. I think we peeled 1000 bananas, mashed 100 avocados and whipped up so many kilos of biscuit dough for kids in Sydney, as well as prepping for the Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year’s) feast. Really inspiring day for us, we hope this post can help whoever’s reading to take some time off to do some good things for others :)

Recently volunteered here with my team colleagues and we had an amazing time! Absolutely appreciate the work this organisation does to help those in need. To make our corporate volunteer experience more fun, they provided us with an ingredient to base our dish off. No recipes, just cooked with what was available in the kitchen and from our hearts. We were all a bit nervous but it all worked out through teamwork and the various ideas from everyone. We felt proud with what we made (pumpkin and lentil bowls) and felt happy that these were delivered to the Ronald Mcdonald House. Thank you for the wonderful experience and can't wait to be back!

I recently had a volunteer cooking day at Our Big Kitchen, and it was a really enjoyable experience. Not only did we have fun cooking together, but we also learned about the important work that Our Big Kitchen does to support homeless people in the community. The speaker at the end of the day gave a powerful and moving speech on the importance of love and feeling like we are enough. It was a truly profound experience that left a lasting impression on all of us. I highly recommend Our Big Kitchen to anyone looking to give back to their community and learn more about the issues facing the homeless.

Came for a day of cooking for the homeless. What a great initiative and organisation. You can sign up as a group or volunteer individually. You can even take some food that you cook to give away to the homeless afterwards. Fun for kids too. They do all types of events from team building corporate events to birthday parties, all for a good cause. Host Mauri (sp?) and head chef are so friendly and professional. Will definitely come back!

Obk is a great non profit organisation which makes meals for free who are in struggle and need for help, well however when I go to individually volunteer I have not had the best experience as people don't really welcome unless they know you. I have been ignores by other or volunteers numerous times, which I find pretty unpleasant, but however in the bright side I have met some really friendly volunteers who love to have a chat

Can't praise this organisation high enough. Such a wonderful community initiative run by the most incredible people. Despite being a Jewish organisation, they provide assistance to people in need from any denomination and accept anyone into their doors feeling welcome and valued!
