Pengo's Cafe
Food & coffee good, nice spot on the beach. The only reason I put 2 stars, is after sitting and eating, 2 of the staff had come out and patted a dog. And went back in and started to serve again, and Did Not wash there hands.not a good thing.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from this place. Appreciate the comments that it's poorly positioned to take account of the views, but these buildings were very common 30 years ago.I gave 5 stars because of the food, service, cleanliness and pet friendliness. It's clear that locals love it too, and it's not a tourist trap. My sister is vegan and there was good choice for her. My niece's favourite - banana bread - was on point. I had a chicken salad which was made with fresh produce and a lovely, refreshing vinaigrette.I had no issue with the wooden cutlery, etc. I'm relieved we're not seeing any plastic particularly since it's next to the water.I'm not sure who owns the building, but hopefully they refurbish it to take account of the view and beautiful surroundings, and update the playground (it was a fail for my 2 year old niece - too boring/small).

Nice spot plenty of parking. Dog friendly outdoor area. Long wait, although in fairness they were quite busy. Meal served in cardboard box with wooden cutlery. Difficult to eat. Forgot the drinks, had to go back to counter. Tea and coffee in paper cups. A bit down market. Might duck in again for a quick coffee, but wouldn't have a meal.

The only way to have a purchased bite before crossing over to Penguin Island. Had a sausage roll and one of their shakes. The place lies next to the water, but still the from their seating area, you won't get any of the nice views. The items I had were not great, but I should have tried one of their main menu items to get a full understanding. When I was there they were very busy.

Great selection of food with many vegetarian options. Great coffee. For a cafe by the sea, I was disappointed to see they only do takeaway cups (compostable only in specific facilities). Scones come with (very little) strawberry jam in plastic.

We were going to go on the Penguin Island wildlife tour but we had an hour to kill before the next boat so we stopped by the cafe to grab something to eat. Most items were under $20.It is conveniently located right next to the wildlife encounter shop where you get the tickets. There were quite a few tables outside but not many inside. There was also a small playground at the side of the shop. They had cabinet food as well as a menu but I just opted for the lamb pie and the iced chocolate. Ordered at the counter and got buzzed when they were ready to be picked up. Both were quite nice. The iced chocolate came with ice cream which was a nice surprise. The lamb pie was fairly large in size and they warmed it up so that it remained flakey. Flavour was ok but couldn't really get the rosemary with the lamb.Overall, it was a nice place to sit and wait for the boat. They also have toilets on the side so that you won't need to hold it on the boat.

We called in this morning and were going to have the breakfast as it wasn't 11.00am for main menu. The lovely man behind the counter explained we could order from other menu. May i say the food service and atmosphere were sensationalWell done. Keep up the great work.

Excellent Chef. Food was absolutely outstanding with house made dressings, fantastic friendly staff, rewards card. Lived here for years, never been to this place. Big Mistake! Both meals pictured are hard to describe because they were that good. The smell of waffles and coffee in a beautiful setting was so good we're going back for that next time. New regulars.Awesome little Cafe, will be back for sure.
