Great Wall of St Kilda

This stunning wall was created in 2009 by Australian artist Camille Monet and the St Kilda Residents community. They named it the Great Wall of St Kilda" and it covers what was previously an ugly wall of a Citypower building that was the target of tagging and old bill posters. It's 11 metres x 5 meters and made of a total of 807 clay tiles. Camille Monet created two hundred and seven large tiles and six hundred smaller tiles were designed and made by local St Kilda residents who she encouraged to participate. The tiles were designed to capture some of the past and present characters and stories in the making of what St Kilda is. Each tile is unique and you can spend a lot of time just looking at them and taking in each message. It’s colourful and thus representative of St Kilda. It's definitely worth checking out."
