Balmain Iyengar Yoga Studio
The best yoga school in Sydney, with fantastic teachers and a welcoming studio. Pixie (the owner) is one of Australia's most senior teachers and it shows in her knowledge, attention and understanding. The classes are also very reasonably priced. There are a lot of yoga options around. I've been a yoga student for about 20 years, and tried most of them. I keep coming back to Iyengar, which I think is the best option for most people. Here are some thoughts that I hope will help you decide if it's right for you.- If you have little or no experience with yoga, Iyengar is the ideal method to start with. It's safe, challenging enough to keep you motivated, and you feel better for it immediately. (I started doing it in my early 20s and was already very fit but got a lot out of it)- If you have more yoga experience and want to improve your practice and physical abilities, levels 2 and 3 Iyengar will take you further than you can go with other types of yoga. (Google some pictures of Mr Iyenger himself for an idea of how far)- If having experienced and knowledgable teachers is important to you, Iyengar is by far the best choice: the junior teachers have extensive training and practice, intermediate Iyengar teacher have more training and experience than a dentist, and becoming a senior teacher is a life-long pursuit. (By comparison, the majority of non-Iyengar teachers have done a 100 or 200 hour training course over a few weeks or months).- If you are working with injuries, I strongly recommend Iyengar yoga. The teacher training has a strong focus on anatomy, physiology and injury management, classes involve a lot of one-on-one attention, and props are used to help you advance to the poses safely. For chronic injuries, Iyengar could be your main practice, and for more acute injuries or during rehabilitation it complements other treatments very well. Always speak to your doctor, surgeon or physio first of course. (I recently started going to Balmain yoga school 4 months after being run over by a truck. I'm recovering from multiple pelvic and sacral fractures, a broken back and serious internal injuries. Pixie and her teachers have given me exceptional care and attention, and I'm making more progress there than I was in rehab group physio)- If you only want to do yoga with a lot of chanting, or at a very fast pace in a hot studio, Iyengar might not be for you (though definitely worth a try, you might be surprised!)I hope this is helpful for you, and all the best for your yoga journey.

Great yoga classes with experienced, and friendly teachers. As a novice was concerned about my lack of flexibility and how this would be seen, but unlike other studios the people attending here and it’s teachers are not pretentious nor competitive, and it’s a relaxed, save space to practice yoga. I would highly recommend trying Iyengar yoga here, it has really help my posture and overall flexibility

Incredible yoga classes with very experienced teachers who really look after you. Any health concerns are addressed and beginners never feel out of place because the levels of classes guide you perfectly week to week so that you progress steadily. If you've been practicing a different style of yoga, I would highly recommend trying Iyengar yoga here at Balmain. The detailed alignment and the focus on long-term health benefits of practice make this style of yoga powerfully transformative. My postures have improved so much since starting at Balmain, but more than that the understanding of my body and how to look after myself through life's ups and downs with my yoga practice are just invaluable.

I've been doing yoga here for 6 years. It's a brilliant studio with exceptional teachers. We're now online due to the Covid pandemic . The live online classes are excellent, with my teacher still giving personal attention to us in our makeshift home studios! I highly recommend it.
