Royal Exchange Hotel

A very nice local pub with a comfortable sofa area I feel really relax, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I had a wonderful time there.

Dropped in Sunday avro no other customers so place looked pretty closed.Bar girl put footy on for us and my wife stroked the lazy cat.Food wasn't available until 5pm so we left and headed across the road to the deserted train station.

Rooms are basic but tidy enough. Typical shared bathroom accomodation.The young woman serving was great but I believe the manager(?) was quite rude. After I had been standing at the bar for a couple minutes I approached him (there was only about 10 people in the bar at that stage and they were all seated/ drinking) and said hi, he walked off without a word with what easily appeared as annoyance, to get the young woman. The couple next to me explained that he doesn’t serve. Wasn’t a great look IMO.At 7:03pm my receipt printed for my dinner order and I didn’t receive it until 8:25pm. The group I was in checked up on it a couple times and was brushed off.The steak was nice enough but luke warm and the veggies were cold. Mash potato was good but again it was bordering on cold. I know times are tough and apparently Covid is still a excuse but the experience was lacking in anything close to good customer service.Lucky they had the young woman or it would of been completely dismal. Wouldn’t recommend for anything more than a beer.

This family run business is really very good. Bar staff (daughter) was welcoming and quick to take my order. Not phased when I asked her to pour what she thought I should drink - Dingo Lager. Very easy to drink thank you lovely girl. The steak I ordered came exactly medium rare and dad in the kitchen stonkered me. Great sized meal, such good chips, and a lovely perfectly dressed salad. Chef you seasoned that steak to perfection. Hug from me. Couldn't eat it all. Wish my tummy was bigger. Had a lovely chat with mum and daughter as I left. It is easy to support local when families like this one work so hard yet make it look easy. Thank you for a wonderful dinner.

Friendly efficient bar and wait staff however we had a steak meal and I would say it was the worst pub steak meal I have ever had, and I've had quite few. Charred on one side and nearly raw throughout. We ordered a medium well. My guess is the cook doesn't know how to grill a steak.

Food not great. Service very slow.

Well presented rooms and comfortable bedding lovely simple place to stay.

The food was delightful, had a half fish and chips and steak with ribs. Steak was cook on the rarer side with is awesome.

Ordered a chicken schnitzel last night . Came out way overcooked . couldn't cut through the crust in some parts and there was parts of the schnitzel that were simply inedible . Didn't say anything or send it back as i needed to eat and couldn't wait another 30 minutes for another parmi . . Most country pubs cook a killer parmi but this was way off the mark . Will give them another try next time i am in katanning but i would go 50m down the road and eat at the flour mill
