I recently got my nails done by Japan Nails - and while the girls were lovely, I am curious as to some of the responses by the owner on previous reviews and the service by the salon.I had my nails done by a lovely Japanese lady who has been in Australia for a short period of time - I really enjoyed chatting and my nails turned out amazing - but why am I pay $121 for the barre minimum of having my nails done? Prior Removal, shape, and for one colour + two small feature nails?The owners response to many other client reviews is that the products are expensive and shipped from Japan - and after a bit of research, that is probably not true. Using the brand ‘Kokoist’ which is $10.30 a bottle on the USA website, shipping is a bit expensive yes, but nearly not enough to have to charge clients $100-$300 a service.I paid $25 for a gel removal as well, where most salons charge an extra $5-10 for removal. It took approximately 10mins to remove prior gel from my nails. All that was used was a motorised file which I could have done at home myself if I had known I’d be charged $25.After previously having my nails done in Japan - I was excited to try out a ‘Japan salon’ here in Melbourne too - but I definitely don’t think it’s worth the hassle to come into the CBD to get your nails done unless you’re wanting to spend the extra cost on art (art is charged per nail) and can afford upwards of $120.Overall I loved my nails, and the time spent here, but be careful and enquire about pricing before sitting down to have your nails done.

BEWARE!!! MUST READ!!!!!!!I had my nails done today.Like the majority of the reviews here, it’s not the quality that is the issue. The business do not advertise price ANYWHERE where you can book nor are they transparent about it. Yes, my fault for not asking, however I’ve had gel X with art work(chrome, airbrush ombré and gems) and have paid MAX. $170 with the SAME products they used. Saying they import from Japan is NOT an excuse to charge exorbitant amounts.I was charged $340; a removal $30, full set of Gel X $160, with chrome tip $12 per nail, and two gems $16 each. The service took 2 hours and 45 minutes with two girls working together for the last 45 minutes.One of the best nail techs in Melbourne who does celebrity nails (Katy perry, Kelly Osbourne to name a few) charges $230 for SCULPTED Japanese gel extension with nail art and this service is for two and a half hours.For ALL inclusive sculpted Japanese gel carte blanch nail art 3.5 hours is $340.This nail salon is a joke and extremely overpriced for what they have provided. Especially since they’ve changed management from 4 years ago.The nail design I chose was a BASIC French tip chrome, not with $340 and I urge others not to fall for this scam.Sorry ladies, you’re lovely but you over charge for what you provided and it’s honestly robbing your clients. It’s places like this that give the industry a bad reputation. Shame on you!

A MUST READ!!I have mixed emotions about this business. Loved the work but I didn’t love to be paying a different price to what was agreed.I called for a booking and asked to have Shellac. the person recommended Japanese gel because it is stronger than shellac, when I asked how much it was mentioned $160 the person asked me if I needed removal, said yes, and then again $160, to what I agreed (expensive but hey! I already said yes).I asked for designs and she quoted $220 I was on no too much, then she offered stickers at $5 each, ok no biggie on that one.Almost 2 hrs later, when paying I thought I going to be charged $180 SURPRISE!!! No, i paid $205. A ridiculous amount of money for just removing, tips and one color gel. Judge for yourselves. I did only one color to keep it at $160.I felt robbed at gunpoint, and to top it all off they come with the “sorry about that” shrug of shoulders and smirk to the other colleague. I am sorry that is not the way you treat customers. I was ok with the first time I came, I don’t know what happened this time. That small detail that you think is silly, made a big difference.Seriously judge yourself before coming to this place.Update: not even a week and this happens, after being promised that Japanese gel was stronger and longer-lasting than acrylic. I hardly ever review 1 star but I am so upset and disappointed that it had to happen. And please, don’t come to tell me that I am giving lies to but your business or offering me just $25 dollar refund (seriously, after this, it should have been the whole money back). Such misleading information. Beware of this place!

The staff were very friendly, I would totally recommend making an appointment before you go. It was my first time ever getting nails done. I would say my experience went pretty good. Didn't take great pictures of my nails but it looks sooo pretty. Looked exactly the way I wanted it to look.

Absolutely love the service and quality I received today. Strong recommend to people coming to CBD. The location is very easily to find next to Chinatown or Bourke Street.I would definitely return after new year. Thank you so much for the wonderful nails make my day!

Overall my acrylic nails look nice, Ikky did a really precise job, her attention to detail was amazing and customer service was really great. By the end (2.5 hours in) another lady started working on my right hand, so my right hand nails are a bit bumpy on the tip compared to my nails on my left hand, she was a lovely lady though. However it really isn't good enough for a simple colour of gel with acrylic nails & extensions which cost me $130 + $25 to get my old acrylic nails off. My nails look nice but I definitely wouldn't say they are worth $130 and almost 3 hours of time.

I was visiting Melbourne and I came across this cute hidden salon. I walked in without a booking to try out Japanese gel for the first time. The lady did a great job removing my overgrown sns without any discomforts. They have a great range of colours and I settled on a jelly design, I also added minimal gems on index and ring fingers through the styling suggestions given by the two ladies. Im really happy with how it turned out. Since I only added minimal designs I thought the $120 was justified. The two ladies really took their time and were lovely. My nails still looks great 3 weeks after. Personally I would recommend and come again when I revisit Melbourne.

This place is located in an adorable pocket of Melbourne in an arcade between Bourke and little Bourke. Good food, cute plush stores and most importantly an amazing nail place that is this place.From the moment I walked in the door to the moment I left I had such an amazing time with two lovely ladies who would work on both hands at the same time but the same nail on each hand which I found fascinating. I went in asking for junji ito inspired nails with some tomie, smoke, and spirals all with reference pictures and these ladies did not disappoint!I didn’t know nail art this good existed in Melbourne. They had so much pride in their work, the removal of my last set was painless if anything felt nice.Usually I find myself compromising when i go get my nails done whether I’m compromising on design or colours other places don’t have I still never get what I want. Here they had every colour you can imagine, every charm every sticker everything ready to go.The absolute sweetest and most skilled nail techs I’ve ever met and they are worth every cent. I know people get upset by the price but if you think of staff, rent, materials and set up cost and the service you’re getting it’s worth it.I find in the cosmetic industry especially, you get what you pay for. And this place provides high end nails and experiences for all. I would recommend everyone who likes getting their nails done to spoil themselves with this experience at least once in their life. I’m so happy with my nails in a way I never have been. Thank you!

Disappointing.The first time I went my nails stayed in tack for 4 weeks which is standard for Japanese Gel. Second time I requested clear gel (bottom and top coat no art) and within the week the gel started to lift ~ as a result dirt is stuck between the nail and gel. $75 for a remove and apply that took 1.5 hrs I assume the quality of either the product or staff has decreased. The woman also confused my request initally telling me she has done (even though I emailed it) after 2 girls translated for me.One of the reviews here says she ended up paying a lot more than the quote and the salon denieds it~ I was also asked Do you want a manicure" which is at other salons standard

Absolutely amazing service! They can help me achieve the design I want perfectly. The nail design of their shop is really unmatched by other shops.Usually I get nails done by other shops, my nature nails will hurt, but I try Japanese gel to experience 8 weeks of durability, and my extension is intact, the effect really shocked me. I have to admit that different prices have different quality, I strongly recommend
