ACT Legal Aid Commission

Went there with my dad after he was in a significant road accident. The lawyer and trainee we spoke with were lovely and gave us some much needed guidance :)

I’m doubting the qualifications of people who work at here. Very inexperienced and unprofessional. They lack of basic knowledge on laws. Not even able to explain a fairy simple legal question. Instead they said” give me your email address and I’ll send you a link of info. You’ll find the answer there”. Legal “aid”?? What a joke.

Beware of Isabell Harris!Do NOT waste your time with her as she will treat you like absolute dirt.I can only assume she has some sort of serious personal issue but she should be removed from her role immediately.If she answers the phone then end the conversation and call back another time hoping someone else answers.

I'm a disabled person on the DSP and the sort of person Legal Aid was founded to assist. Legal Aid ACT has refused to make reasonable accommodations for my disability or explain why they couldn't provide the requested accommodations. I've had one awful experience after another. My most recent experience was having a grant of aid cancelled because I asked my lawyer to explain the repercussions of the advice she wanted me to follow. She refused and said the assigned funding didn't cover answering questions. She expected me to follow her advice without knowing what I was doing or why I was doing it and when I asked for an explanation she dropped me.I haven't broken the law (I'm just trying to get through my divorce), but I don't see how anyone who is disabled and also accused of something criminal would get fair representation.

I visited to Lodge my application for legalaid and the reception was cordial and educative with vital information. Though my application was refused I will continue to seek acceptance for a review through a humble appeal to hear me out now being settled in the ACT. An impartial and great service centre.

Reception is lovely, very polite. Due to limited funding you don't necessarily get the same solicitor representing you, which has implications for poorer people getting justice.

I just called to try make an appointment about a family matter..i was spoken to like absolute rubbish! treated like a lier and a criminal! Hung up on and left a total mess in tears and feeling worthless..when i asked for the person's details that just hung up on me i was treated the same way again and lied too...im discusted by legal aid and the way they think is okay to treat people..i would never ever recomend there services to anyone on earth! unless your looking for zero help to be made feel like a dog and treated like one also. One place you go getting these peoples help ,AND THAT IS DOWN OR PRISON
