The French Learning Institute
An absolutely amazing school, wonderful teachers and a great way to learn! I wanted to improve my French so I could speak more easily with my new French in-laws, so I signed up for an introductory course. The format was really straightforward and there were a range of options in terms of time commitment and pace, so I could pick one that fitted nicely with my work schedule. The teacher was lovely and enthusiastic - she really paid attention to each student and soon recommended that I move into a more advanced class as I had some fundamentals already. The teacher for the next class was just as delightful and obviously has such an amazing passion for teaching, it makes the lessons really engaging. She goes above and beyond, sharing contemporary French events, history, art and culture throughout the week, not just while we're in class - it really makes you enjoy your journey with the language.I look forward to my lesson each week and my wife tells me she can really hear my progress when I join in with video calls with her French family, which is really satisfying!

I joined the French Learning Institute in November of 2019 in the A1 class, as i have always wanted to learn the language but, didn't know where to start? I'm very happy I did, as I am now continuing on with my B1 class. I was quite nervous to begin with as it had been some time since I had been in a learning environment but the team were very welcoming, really understood how to teach adults and to accommodate to or our needs/learning level. Our teacher is so patient and helpful, makes the experience enjoyable, doesn't only focus on textbook learning and provides actual real life scenarios of how to use the language. I think we can all agree that since covid changed the way of the world, it has been a challenging, however the team at the French Learning Institute really helped make the transition from face to face to online learning an easy one. The classes are interactive, and we are taught useful information and pronunciation by our French teacher, who is genuinely interested in our progression. If learning French is something you are interested in, for work, to meet new like minded people or just learn a valuable skill, I highly recommend this school.

My experience at the French Learning Institute has been absolutely wonderful so far. I started in the beginning of 2021 with absolutely no French language skills and am now in the early stages of A2 level (with plans on continuing!) Julia is an absolutely amazing teacher; she is kind, patient and will go above and beyond to provide resources or activities to assist us if we are having difficulties with French grammar. Julie is also amazing in checking in at the end of each term to see how we are progressing and asking for any feedback we would like to give. My experience with the French Learning Institute thus far has been amazing and I have really enjoyed learning French. I would recommend to any family and friends who were considering starting with their French language journey to consider the French Learning Institute.

Having taken up French a few years ago by travelling twice a year to France for one-week courses in various parts of that country, then enrolling in a more regular once a week course in my city, which had obvious benefits, until the travel to and from my home to the course for an hour instruction, became time I could not afford, I turned to an online course. The chance I have taken this year by enrolling in a weekly hour and a half online course has been most rewarding. The structure of the lesson, general conversation with some vocabulary building, movement at a comfortable pace through some reading, listening, viewing, grammar and writing exercises, in addition to some manageable ‘devoirs’ personally marked by an outstanding tutor (who lives in France), and a small group of congenial learning associates, have proved the formula for learning a language. The number of advantages The French learning Institute offers that I have appreciated include a quality teacher sensitive to the learning needs of the students, a broad range of relevant resources and a course that can be undertaken wherever you open your computer. If you are looking for a well organised, supported and stressful language experience, this one is worth considering.

I joined the French Learning Institue this year after learning few bits here and there on my travels and with phone apps. But I wanted to learn more. The staff at French Learning Institute responded very quickly and helped me get into the right class for my level straight away. They allowed me to join the A1.5 just for a couple of lessons to see where I am at - which ended up being the right level. It is pretty intense, you learn a lot in the 1.5 hours a week. I increased my vocabulary but also learnt the grammar which you can't learn through apps. I am just really impressed with how smooth everything was and how welcoming the teachers were. I am now up to A2 and I'll be continuing my learning with them!

I joined a FLI course at a B1 level, looking to boost my learning via a small intimate class. After 18 months, I've had 2 simply fantastic teachers. They show genuine interest in each student, remembering and asking (in French of course) about us, getting us to describe our week, our opinions on matters, and providing opportunity to chat with the other students on the relevant topic from our textbooks which are pretty current and interesting. It's very friendly and I find it a great learning environment and we had a lovely Xmas dinner together. I'm now at level B2. I strongly recommend if this is what you're looking for.

I joined a TFLI class at B2 level, having studied French at school 40 years ago. After just a couple of terms I found that my self-confidence and willingness to speak French had increased dramatically. The class size is just right (5 in our class), the lessons are the perfect length, and challenging without being overwhelming, and the amount of homework is manageable. Our teacher (Stephanie) is really excellent, allowing all of us to participate in the class, pushing us with the right mix of vocab, grammar, slang and everyday talk, and covering a huge variety of topics; never making anyone feel bad about their mistakes and encouraging us at every turn. Before I joined the class I thought it might be better to have individual lessons, but the inter-activity with other class members during the lessons is a definite advantage, and the teacher's use of Zoom screen sharing and other techniques enhances the experience. I would absolutely recommend.

I studied French in high school and many years later was keen to return to the language. I started right at the beginning on level A1-1, and I've been doing it for a whole year now with the lovely teacher Julia in the group lessons. It has been such a fun, enriching and positive experience for me. I genuinely am having so much fun. If you are keen on learning French and are either an absolute beginner or intermediate, you will really enjoy learning from these amazing native speakers! Highly recommend!!

I've been studying French with The French Learning Institute now for nearly 12 months. I joined the A1 level and I'm now at A2 level and all my classes are online. I've really enjoyed the experience and particularly like our teacher Julia, who is exceptionally patient but more importantly, is adept at imparting the information we need to make sense of the harder aspects of French grammar. I've studied French before and although I'm a long way from being conversationally confident, this is the first time that I've been able to grasp the various tenses of verbs, something that frustrated me in the past and eventually I'd give up, but Julia has got me over that line and it's encouraging at age 64 to be able to learn like this.I'm also very impressed with the phone calls we get at the end of every term to check in on our learning and see how we're going. It makes the experience personal and hands on, even though the classes are online. Finally, being able to do my classes in the comfort of my own home is an added bonus as I live a fair way from the city.I would definitely recommend The French Learning Institute if you're looking for a language school who really want you to succeed.
