Hickmans Crater
Incredible crater that remained unknown until 2008. It's very peaceful out there, with incredible sunset views from the top of the rim, and camping inside the crater. At the rim there's a mail box with a guest book in it. It's nice to read about the people that visited before you.It was a little hard to find it. The easist way is to go to the Newman Visitors Centre who will arrange your permit to use the Rail Access Road, which you need to drive on to get to the track. The Visitors Centre will also give you step by step directions. Some of the track is marked by pink ribbons tied to bushes and fences. Nearby, there is a creek, but we didn't have time to visit. It takes a few hours to drive out there and you are a long way from help, so be safe, travel with two vehicles if you can, if not then make sure someone knows where you are going and when to expect you back. If you break down out there you'll be a long way from help.

This is a must see place, absolutely amazing. the pictures dont give this place the justification it deserves. You will need a good 4x4 to get to this place and no caravans, you could easily get a camper trailer in. The rds are not maintained so a few wash outs, steep inclines and bring a spare tyre just in case

Drove an hour out of my way on gravel roads to get there only to find a “private property. no trespassing” sign on the final turn, 15 minutes away from the crater. I turned back around, disappointed.

G'day Adventurers, the original 'letter box' which served as the crater visitor log book station has been replaced with a purpose built weather proof unit. The letter box was not weather proof but it was in use for close to 15 years, now there is a genuine flat surface on which to rest the log book while you write your story on getting to and seeing the crater, possibly for the first time or maybe for the 20th time. Please do record your visit to this very remarkable place, as you might just help in some way in the preservation of this very unique place.Safe travels : Joe Fury
