Trevathan Falls

Need 4x4 to get here, then a short walk. Waterfall was in full flow. Laying under the falls was an adventure. Great place for a swim.

Rough road going in, 4WD definitely required. Wasn't sure if it existed since the signs were all homemade, not the normal touristy signs but worth the journey in and the little trek to the falls itself.

This is a stunning place. The Falls are quite high, and when we were there, just after a night of rain, was in full flow. At the bottom of the falls is a big pool that I'd des ribed as a swimming hole. However, I would not enter when the falls and stream below is flowing as strong as we saw.Road access is via a gravel road, which turns on to a rough bush track. Tourist information recommends a 4WD but we took our Subaru Outlook through with no problem. The last part of the track is a strenuous walk down the steep ba ks of the revised. One of the most beautiful falls we have been to. Fairly out of the way but well worth the trip. A must if you are around Cooktown.As previously said... A 4x4 is probably recommended to get here. Not an extreme drive but a bit bumpy in places. Straight down Mt Amos Rd and follow the signs to the falls.

Beautiful Falls. You'll get wet standing at the bottom of the falls though! The walk from the car park can be a bit treacherous.

Paradise! If you don't mind a short scramble over rocks and climbing up slippery gravel and accross a undulating goat track there's a reward waiting. Deep fresh water with lots of fish and a stunning waterfall. Take some bread and the water fairly boils with fish. None will hurt you when swimming. Turn off at Amos Bay Rd and take the dirt road for about 15 minutes and watch out for the sign in the tree. The road in has been graded recently so it's not too rough, just a few washouts so keep alert. Not much space for sitting around or picnicking at the Falls, it's more about the waterfall and swimming. There are no facilities or phone reception. It's just in it's natural state and it's beautiful.
