Tim Burnham's Drum Kit Tuition

Had Tim teach me drums many moons ago and he couldn't have made it more fun for me by teaching me all the skills i needed to learn and practice to be the drummer i wanted to be. Late review but well deserved. Thanks for everything Tim!Cheers, Joel Raptor.

Tim is the dude! He is a great communicator with a wealth of knowledge. Tim has done an unreal job of helping me taking my playing to the next level in a effortless fashion.Tim makes every lesson a blast and you feel like you’re making great progress in a short amount of time.I would highly recommend Tim to anyone of any skill level, he is an all round legend!

I've had lesson's from Tim for many years now. He's taught me a great deal about rhythm and melody, primarily from a drum perspective. Lesson's are always on point, as Tim is one to know how to help you develop techniques that will be most suitable to your playing application.With Tim being a multi instrumentalist, a lesson will involve him jamming out your favourite tunes together, whether it's rock and roll or acid jazz, it's going to happen!A very down to earth and hands on teaching experience, you won't be disappointed!

I cannot speak highly enough of Tim Burnham as a drum teacher.My teenage daughter started learning drums from Tim at Manny’s in North Fitzroy. He sent home sheet music each week for her to practice. She really enjoyed her lessons with him, especially the fact that they could jam together (with Tim on bass). It was never an effort to get her to the next lesson, as she was having a ball and learning plenty.When Manny’s closed down their music school, Tim offered us lessons at his house, which was easy to get to by tram, and felt like a safe environment into which to send her (“a family vibe” was how Tim described it, which was reassuring after remembering some of the dodgy bong-strewn ‘band rooms’ I’ve seen in the past!). Tim was really flexible with arranging lessons times, durations and payment, so everyone was happy with the new arrangement.Tim and I had a “parent-teacher chat” on the phone at the end of each term, during which he let me know how she was doing, where her strengths lay and (more importantly) what he wanted her to focus on during her practice. He had ample time to share his impressions of her progress during these calls, even if he was on tour, and never gave me the impression he wanted to get this parent off the phone. I was confident that he was building her technique as well as giving her opportunities to put these skills into practice right away. When she had mastered all the sheet music, he started to push her to jam, and go off the sheet music, which definitely pushed her out of her comfort zone (which she needed!)Tim goes above and beyond to help his students excel and progress. He helpfully pointed us in the right direction when looking to buy an electronic drum kit, sharing his broad knowledge of the best brands for students, what constitutes a reasonable price, and where to look. He even helped pick up a few spare bits (e.g. a kick drum pedal) to make the kit complete.As well as teaching, Tim is an accomplished professional drummer. Our daughter was always interested to hear Tim’s stories of his many and varied gigs, which kept her motivated (and keen to get to some gigs one day).If you’re looking for a first-rate, professional drum teacher for your child, look no further than Tim Burnham.
