Googong Cascades - viewing area

A great area to see the overflow from the Googong spillway when the dam is at 100%.The water is beautiful as it flows down the Queanbeyan River. A fantastic area to watch, but some people also swim in the river below the viewing platform.

The cascades at Googong dam used to be a very popular swimming spot back in the mid to late 90's and is now mostly a tourist attraction for viewing the dam weir and creek/River rapids and beautiful surrounding bushland. It would be a nice place for a picnic. Just be sure to take any rubbish with you as there are no bins.There are about 3 or 4 tracks that lead to viewing areas.This area is not wheelchair accessible and there are no public toilets.The reserve (northern) gates open at 8.00am and are locked again at 6.00pm in non-daylight savings time and at 8.00pm in daylight savings time.

Currently not reachable. Gate closed. Visited on 1st jun 2022.

nice short walk to see the river. could hear heaps of frogs and lots of what I assume are wombat burrows and tracks.

Great spot for a dip (with care) on a hot summers day its a river canyon that opens out and a couple lookout spots. You wouldnt swim when dam is released or in flood, theres also submerged rocks. only about 200m walk from carpark but quite a drop down the steps and back up.
