Dependable local Peking Duck. Consistently good.---Above was written 6 years ago. We have been back many, many times so I thought I would write a more detailed review.Duck 4/5: This duck is fried and not roasted, so it lacks the smoky flavour that you get from some other places. They used to slice the duck by the table, but these days they do it in the kitchen. They also used to take more care with the plating. Still, it is very good and reasonably priced.Duck soup 4/5: the soup is made with diced tofu and pickled mustard greens. It is peppery, slightly sour, and rich with the flavour of duck bones. It tastes amazing. What lets it down is the lack of refinement - too many floaty gristle bits. The chef should skim the soup more, or better still - strain it.Shredded duck with beansprouts and crispy noodles 4/5: the noodles used to be really crispy but lately they haven't been frying the noodles enough. Still a tasty dish. What elevates it to 5 stars (despite the 4 star food) is the reasonable price, the convenience, and the speed at which food is delivered even though they are always busy.

It's a classic Peking Duck restaurant with excellent ducks and mediocre sides.I have been to this restaurant a few times and I have to say the duck is absolutely amazing and you should always order it if you visit. The other dishes are pretty average in comparison of the duck. The duck should be eaten in 3 courses, first is the self made wrap with the soft wrapper, one or two pieces of duck with crispy skins, and some cucumber scallion and sauce. Second is the soup and third is crispy noodles. The side dishes I ordered this time include a fish, which is fine except for my personal dislike of the strong ginger, the tofu which is very flavourful especially for tofu but slightly mushy skin.Overall i highly recommend the duck and enjoy that crispy skin and juicy meat. It can get busy and I think theres probably better Chinese food down the road at Box Hill if you aren't getting the duck.

Was here about 6 years ago, had a good experience back then with their peking duck and the noodles so wanted to come back for special occasion. It was hard to get a booking, rang like 4 times, most times they just never picked up. When we went on a Sunday lunch, there were othe people but the restaurant wasn’t full, maybe about half full. Their peking duck was beautiful, I think you get about 20 pancakes for one duck. Their crispy noodles was beautiful like I remembered. Soup was ok, has subtle taste and slightly sour, it reminds me of soup you might have with roast pork. I probably wouldn’t order it if by choice. Also tried their salt pepper calamari with chili, it was beautifully cooked and tender, with enough spiciness in the batter. Overall very happy that their quality has been consistent after such a long time. Spent less than $30 per person which I think was pretty good for such quality. Staff were pretty good eventhough they looked busy, but most are friendly and quick.

Been coming here for years now for peking duck which is good as.Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the place lacks customer service.Even a smile from ANY of the staff would have made our day.Came here last weekend after 4 years and the customer service has dropped off completely. The lady who greets you at the door asked to look at our vaccine passports which the govt had already erased the requirement to do so a couple days earlier.I also signed in via QR code and exited the app.The lady asked me to do it again so she could sight it.I felt her attitude was aggressive.

During my recent visit to Old Kingdom in Surrey Hills Melbourne, I had a mixed experience. The restaurant boasts a convenient location and an inviting atmosphere, with warm lighting and tasteful decor. However, while the service was friendly and prompt, the food didn't quite hit the mark for me.Undoubtedly, the highlight of the meal was the Peking Duck Pancakes. These arrived freshly prepared, with crispy and flavourful duck skin alongside thin, delicate pancakes. The contrast of textures was delightful, and the self-serve approach allowed us to customize our portions and toppings.Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Peking Duck Noodles. These were rather disappointing, with soggy noodles and a lackluster flavour that failed to impress. Similarly, the Salted Vegetable and Duck Soup was too salty for our tastes, leaving us with a lingering aftertaste that detracted from the overall experience. While the service was commendable and the ambiance was pleasant, the prices were quite steep. In fact, the cost of the meal was $70 per duck, which is relatively high given the mixed experience. All things considered, I would give Old Kingdom a 3/5 rating. While the Peking Duck Pancakes were certainly a highlight, the Peking Duck Noodles and Salted Vegetable and Duck Soup left something to be desired. While Old Kingdom may be a viable option for Chinese cuisine in the area, there are likely better options available.

The way how they cut the duck and the condiments (spring onions and cucumbers) is an insult to this traditional Chinese classic dish. Service is shocking too. They will seat 4 people on a tiny square table so that they can leave the bigger tables for large groups. The whole place was ridiculously overcrowded and noisy. Those people who said their duck is delicious, you need to have standards.
