A pleasant and affordable getaway experience located within an hour and a half from Perth. While it cannot compare with premium experiences like the West Coast Wilderness Railway in Tasmania, having such an offering in the region complements the other offerings quite nicely.

Had an amazing dinner in the club car tonight. Service was very prompt and volunteer staff were absolutely friendly.Food was so delicious I polished the apple crumble then realized I forgot to take a photo. Complimentary port (quite tasty) with the cheese platter was the cream on the top. Thanks Hotham Railway for an unforgettable evening.Highly recommended A++++

It was a 2hours ride with an amazing view of the landscape. The steam train departs and arrive to the station on time. The staff are super friendly and they reassure the passengers that everything is going to be okay. There is a snack shop on board the train where you can get chips, beer and some beverages on board. Very beautiful experience and this is our 2nd time here. Its amazing.

Lovely old timey feel, amazing views, and generally a lovely trip. However, allocated seating would have been better for the 40 dollars per person admission, I felt like we were shoved on a poverty bus and left to find our own seats. I went for the visit on my birthday and would have liked to sit with my husband instead, were rows apart.

Wasn't overly exciting experience. Caught Forrest Train. My 5 year old son was excited for first 20min. It was a 2 hour ride through bush with a 20min stop for a bush walk. One of the most underwhelming experiences I have ever had. And the diesel fumes had a few watery eyes and a few noses being covered. Was told to go back when fire ban was over and ride the steam train because much better.

Thoroughly enjoyed the forest train ride. It takes almost 2 hours all up and I thought quite reasonably priced. Please note that it is a very basic level of comfort. Open carriages with canvas covers and wooden benches for seating. However it does help give the ride an adventurous atmosphere. And it is historic rolling stock, as are the points of interest on the trip. I didn't award 5 stars because the PA system on the train wasn't working, so there was no commentary. But they did signal points of interest in quirky ways using the locomotive horn, and a good quality handout/map was provided with the tickets that explains everything. I also enjoyed the short 15 minute bushwalk at Etmilyn station, where they shunt the locomotive to the opposite end for the return journey. This is one for train/history buffs and anyone with a sense of fun and adventure. There were quite a few families with young children who seemed to enjoy the experience. It does pay to book ahead. I booked in the morning for the afternoon trip, which was sold out by the time we arrived. Recommended.

Very scenic ride and turns you back in time with the steam train. Staff are all very welcoming and kind. Better wear glasses as ash can easily get in your eyes as you peek out of the window( don’t ask me how I knew it)

A great experience for kids and the whole family. Tickets for the train ride can be purchased online or on the day itself before departure. Cafe is available. The whole place is spacious, perfect for kids to run around.
