I love this place, this Sacred indigenous place known as Baiame’s Ngunnhu by the locals; Baiame being the creator of the Ngunnhu, the fish traps. So much ancient history is here and one can feel it. It was a meeting point for eight tribes, a place of co-operation and celebration. Fish would swim upstream, many of them continuing on their way to breed, but some would get caught in the traps. More rocks would then be placed to form a trap which would store the fish until they were required for food. It was a joy to be here earlier this year as water flooded them following floods from Queensland. Pelicans followed, in their hundreds as what was thought of as ‘dead’ came bursting back to life. There are stories upon stories upon stories in this place.
