Let Them Eat Cake

I experienced the most horrendous customer service from the owner of this place and he completely ruined my mood for the rest of the afternoon – I was lost for words!I was walking by and thought I will pop in to get a quote for my wedding cake, given they did not look very busy. I was asked by one of his team members to wait for the owner to get off the phone who will then assist me, which was no issue. He came over and essentially snapped at me that I need to make an appointment to see him, something that just as easily could have been told to me in advance by the team member that served me. Nonetheless, I simply apologised and asked if I could simply get a quote for a semi-naked two tier red velvet with cream cheese filling wedding cake (clearly very specific). Then in a very rude, hostile and defensive manner he said they do not make THAT cake because HE does not like it, and that it is a very inappropriate cake for a wedding and that he finds it too dry (clearly a simple no we do not make it here would have sufficed). He then asked me whether I find that sort of cake dry, and naturally I said it depends on who makes it and how it gets made. So he snaps back at me that HE doesn’t like it and that no one in Melbourne will make that cake! I was lost for words. He wished me a good day turned his back to me and walked off.Needless to say, I will NEVER step foot in that place again and actively deter anyone who thinks otherwise.

Have been buying birthday cakes several times a year from here for many years. The best cakes you can buy at reasonable prices. The owner can be a little quirky but really is as helpful as he can be. People who criticize his cakes should stick to the cheese cake factory.

My wife called this place on a Friday about the possibility of them making a cake for the next day. They told her it was doable and asked her price range. She didn't know, so they suggested $250. She told them politely this was outside her price range and they promptly hung up!There was no need to be rude. It simply doesn't matter what this shop produces, they are rude.

Christopher and his team have made my daughter's christening cake and her 1st birthday cake and we have been elated with the results every time. This year he made her day with a princess and superhero themed cake for her 5 the birthday party. I went in, discussed the theme I wanted and we arranged to meet up following week to finalise what it might look like. Christopher was really good with my daughter, he sat with her and took on her ideas, he was very accomodating and nothing seemed a problem, we both came out feeling really good about the experience and my daughter was so excited and couldn't wait to see the end result! And the team didn't disappoint, it was such a fun and unique design, she loved it and was so excited to show her friends, not to mention the 25 or so adults at the party who were all wowed! Not only did the cake look fantastic, it also tasted great as always. Christopher is an artist, you really need to trust his vision. We will definitely be back and recommend as we have in the past. I am usually against giving bad online public reviews, but I just had the worst customer service experience ever in my life, so I just had to! It's almost laughable. In fact after reading other reviews here I was laughing!I wanted a quote on a cake made but i didn't have a budget in mind and wanted some examples or approximate prices. The guy was so rude and told me he couldn't help me and marched me out the door!I was left standing outside shaking my head. I could see another staff member standing out the back looking with her mouth wide open. Yes, I was just kicked out of a cake shop for asking for a quote! How is this guy still in business?

Chris is one of Melbourne's finest pastry chef's. Having trained originally at Florentino's his work is probably the best in Melbourne; only rivalled by the now closed Patterson's cake shop. Chris has done some board room catering for me for the past 30 years, wedding cakes, birthday cakes and it always amazes me how much butter and sugar get gets into one cake. A taste sensation. We recently had the chocolate cake and it literally melted in my mouth. The best in Melbourne! A real Melbourne icon and amazing chef.

My favourite cake experience ever. Feel like a VIP every time I make contact to arrange a celebration cake. Christopher and his team have never let me down. Being a busy person I love how I can rely on this business to take care of detail and present the perfect solution every time. Do yourself a favour and experience the difference - you will not be disappointed. Love how innovative and caring this business is.

Chris made a christening cake for our daughter in 1999 when he had his shop in Brisbane: he also made first and second birthday cakes for her before he returned to Melbourne: Brisbane's sad loss!The cakes were always spectacular in presentation, delightful to eat - and almost pushed our daughter to second focus of attention at her celebrations.We are delighted to see that he is operating a successful business in South Melbourne and will make a point of visiting him (and sister Carmel?) when next we are in that part of Australia.Best wishes Chris!

Chris is such a wonderful, warm person. And his work is such a beautiful expression of his creativity.My first purchase was a Diplomat for the missus' birthday, and she LOVED it. The favor was returned with a cake for my birthday.Sublime flavors, astounding visuals and great balance on each creation. And the cupcakes are little pieces of art!
