We have been to Shillinglaw a number of times, most recently for mothers day lunch. The venue is really quaint. Set in an old house, most of the seating is outside with a fantastic children's play area. The food is delicious cafe food and the coffee is really nice. Great selection of dishes for all day breakfast and lunch. The venue is licensed. We will be back for sure.

This is THE place to come if you want something different to mainstream cafes that say they cater for kids. Welcome to Shillinglaw located off Main Road in Eltham. This old homestead built around the 1850’s was fortunately salvaged when a demolition order was impending and converted to the sweetest cafe / restaurant.Today it is beautifully decorated with an eclectic range of well chosen homewares that makes me think it’s been staged Australian Country Style magazine. You walk through the main door to a small reception to the left and a very small kitchen to the right. How they pump out so many great meals is a testament to the talents of the chefs.Keep walking up the stairs to a lovely indoor dining area which doubles as function room. Keep walking through this area to a covered outdoor dining area that opens up to another eating area that is bathed in the dappled light of an oak (?) tree. Here is where the magic happens. The ground is covered with fake turf so come sun or rain it’s an all season mudless play area. The sandpit is huge with plenty of space for lots of kids. Seating is comfortable and matches the theme of the decor and also won’t blow away with a gust of wind.Menu is simple but healthy fare. My daughter had scone, jam and cream. I had packed eggs on sour dough with a side serve of bacon and haloumi. The chair latte was a nice loose leaf blend and served in the cutest jug.Service was excellent and faultless. Nothing was too much trouble and the food took about 15 minutes from order to table.Good parking out the front. Kid friendly. Not sure if it’s wheelchair friendly because of the stairs but there may be access from the rear. Takeaway coffee and cakes available.Functions can be booked so make Enquiries via the website.Big brownie points - your fur babies are welcome.Highly recommend.

Been here a few times and it does not disappoint if you get a booking. The food is always consistent. Coffee wasn't as great but not bad either. It is always busy but the service is impeccable.

Great time at Shillinglaw, we have been here a couple of times with our 2 kids, 3 and 5 which played in the outdoor section with the toys provided by the cafe. Food was great, as breakfast food is. Also close to the adventure playground across the road. The staff were good with timely service, and good with the boys running around. Great job guys!

We were told not to make a booking when I called to make one and instead they were only accepting walk ins. After an hours drive I was told on arrival they weren’t accepting walk ins today and only bookings could be made. The staff were not willing to accept their mistake despite me telling them that I attempted to book. The staff did not apologise and pathetically made us walk out

We were so taken by this old cottage (built in 1859 and rebuilt in its current location in 1960s) that we decided to pop in and have our morning tea. The wait staff were lovely and promptly showed us to the rear garden and advised us where to sit. It was a beautiful day and the back yard was just the perfect place for a nice cuppa. We ordered scones with our drinks, which duly arrived. The scones were lovely as they were probably the first scones we had tasted in the past 9 years, so it was a nice treat. We loved the setting, the history and the lovely service staff.

We had the honour of celebrating our son Daniel’s life at Shillinglaw. Right from the outset Louise was warm, sympathetic and accomodating and nothing was too much trouble. On the day, the cottage looked stunning, the food was outstanding and the girls serving were so lovely. They also did a great job catering for my vegan daughter and some of her friends. They even set up a special bar for us so no one went thirsty. Later I had the chance to meet Louise’s husband Greg who was on lockup, what an absolute gentlemen.I cannot recommend this little cottage more highly for whatever function or meal you have planned, an absolute treasure run by great peopleMick

Website said closed at 4pm, we called and voice message said closed at 3pm. Since no one picked up phone we family went there and they said closed at 2pm. 2 times get disappointed. Poor management and please update your correct time! Misleading!

Charming cafe that is very kid-friendly! The outdoor area has a gorgeous big oak tree that provides shade for the entire area and there is a play area with toys provided as well. There is also a great playground located just across the road! The scones and tea was just perfect!
