I love the store itself. Nice layout, friendly and helpful staff. Decent range of books and you can get other books ordered in (bearing in mind there’ll be big delays around now due to Covid-19 slowing down deliveries).Mostly, I’m just thrilled to have a proper bookstore back in the mall again.Sadly, the Gold Membership is a bit of a farce and I wasn’t given nearly enough information about it when applying. The pitch included, roughly, “It costs $40 but you get 4 x $10 vouchers, so you get the cost back anyway.” No extra information was given, so I bought the membership. But it turns out there is 'fine print' that means you really don't get it back unless you're a particularly big spender there.You find out *later* that it comes with the restriction that each voucher can only be used when you spend $50 or more at once. We regularly buy $20-35 worth of books and have done several times since, so never get to use the vouchers. The *one* time we actually spent more, was on a single $127 book - but guess what, it also turns out they only let you use one voucher per book, no matter the cost. In this case, we had actually find the same book for around $100 online (it was either Amazon or Booktopia, we'd looked at both), and decided we'd rather get it from QBD at $107 (factoring in two vouchers). We *really* should have stuck with the online one!So our vouchers have been pretty useless - I really wish I’d been told how it worked properly before I bought in.There are other benefits to the Gold Membership, but they won’t nearly make up the money spent to get the membership in the first place, so it really feels like a bit of a scam.Another problem is their electronic system for members, which is quite a mess. I had an online account, a membership card, and those vouchers, and none of them were connected in anyway. I had to write a complaint online to get the online account and membership card connected. And when you want to use your vouchers, it means hunting around for an email from months ago (make sure you don't have your phone set to store just the last month of emails!!!) Most similar systems would have the vouchers built into your membership card.

Imagine being surrounded by all these books and not knowing simple words like 'please', 'thank you', 'have a nice day', or 'we value your custom'. At least you didn't bother with the redundant 'see you next time.
