Very tasty and balanced meals prepared with Japanese origins, including salmon rosti, teriyaki chicken rice, unagi egg rice, chicken katsu. The barista owner Justin makes excellent latte which can be taken as original or with macha, tumeric or chai.Very nice backyard which is sheltered from weather and dog friendly. Service is great too. Please keep up the good work, it's great to have such a lovely neighbourhood cafe in Surrey Hills.

Weekend brunch should be enjoyable, worthwhile and memorable, like @chitchatcafebar located at 147 Union Road, Surrey Hills, will never ever disappoint you and will only make you fall in love with all their delicious meals. We had their popular and most loved soft shell crab burger, comes with an actual fried crab, very refreshing to eat, and tasty. The crab is cooked to perfection. Must try and it comes with a side of fries and ketchup. The grilled unagi bowl with scrambled egg was my absolute favourite because of the lovely umami flavour and that grilled eel was way too perfect and delicious with the steamed rice and the egg. Strongly recommended.Fried chicken with waffles is a fantastic blend of sweet and savoury flavours in one plate, comes with a fairy floss, syrup, fresh fruits and yummy waffles. The fried chicken was so divine and very juicy to eat. Must try for sure.We also had a matcha latte and a hot chocolate, both were equally satisfying to drink, especially the matcha latte, it was just right in taste! The service is friendly and the vibe here was just very calm and cozy. And the prices are impossibly reasonable.

Awesome food with awesome coffee. Parents go to this place regularly and took us there for the 1st time. Also staff are very good. Highly recommended!

Fo0die dined as a guest of Chit Chat Cafe and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service.A small cafe located on Union Road in Surrey Hills, close by to Surrey Hills train station. The venue has a small indoor dining space and a large outdoor undercover space, this was where we sat for our visit.Food-wise, we had the salmon rosti which was recommended to us by the team here, and the Chit Chat brekky special which is their 'big brekky' equivalent. The salmon rosti was beautifully presented and nicely balanced off with a pickled salad which I wished we had a bit more of in the dish. The brekky special was a good portion size for us with a good amount of bacon (more than what we have seen at other venues). And what we loved was that the large coffee was actually a large one in a big mug!Overall we think the price at Chit Chat is very reasonable for the dishes they offer.

Very friendly staff, great food and the service was excellent. Beautiful, light, fluffy and buttery eggs. My son loved his waffles. Great chai and hot chocolate. Highly recommended especially if you are local. Sorry no egg pictures but my friend went the next day and had baked eggs and said they were great!

We visited Chit Chat Cafe & Bar on a wet cold night over the Anzac Day weekend. This great little cafe was open for its Japanese styled dinner service. It was having a private function out the back but staff were friendly and welcoming and accommodated us in the front part of the venue. We ordered the Japanese Karaage and some lotus chips for entree and followed this up with a Wagyu Beef Shogayaki bowl with soft poached egg and the new to the menu Soft Shell Crab fusion burger. The Karaage had a lovely light seasoning to it and I did enjoy the lotus chips ( I could eat these all day). My beef bowl was full of flavour and there was more than enough sauce to soak through the rice, which is always something I look out for. KD’s soft shell crab burger was massive and generous with a whole flash fried crab, pickled vegetables and a sriracha Mayo.Although I drank beer, their wine menu did stand out as being quite diverse and we were impressed by the number of wine by the glass options

We had a very disappointing experience at the cafe. We ordered two glasses of prosecco, but the waiter brought us red wine instead. When we told her that we ordered prosecco, she seemed confused and told us that’s prosecco. Told her it should be white and got our replacement. The lotus root chips were served cold and so soggy that they could be bent 180 degrees. We had to send them back to the kitchen and got a new bowl that was slightly crispy but still soft and soggy. Decided that chef doesn’t know how to make it right and gave up.The chilli scrambled eggs were mediocre and served on plain white bread without butter or (not sure if its even being toasted?)Overall, it was a terrible dining experience. The waiter didn't seem to have a good grasp of the menu or basic English, while the chef did not seem knowledgeable about the food either. We spent $80, which could have been better spent elsewhere on higher-quality food. We regret eating there and would never go back. Was hoping to give the feedback at the cafe but no one asked us for it.

Unagi was very filling and delicious. Not overly dry, fresh eel and I enjoy the sweet-savory sauce over the steamed rice. The wait staff are all very friendly. There’s a good amount of variety on the menu. Come again? Yes! Would honestly visit more often when I’m around the area.
