You'll need to go on a tour or find a kayak to get there, but if you can it's totally worth it as the island is stunning and has some fascinating history. The paddle over from Balmain only takes 5 minutes, and you should pay the landing fee in advance. considering it's location it is surreal being so empty, although there were a couple of people living in one of the houses that surprised me.

I want to know who I can sue for false advertising - things were getting a bit hot in the city tonight so I swam out here and ... NO GOATS!This is probably Clover Moore's fault somehow - all the things I don't like are things she likes and she does it on purpose.

Goat Island, famous for gunpowder stowage, hosting convicts, the first harbourmaster’s house, Green Day & Midnight Oil, and being the film set for Water Rats.Being a national park it is a requirement that you book in advance with the authorities if you’d like to visit. Otherwise, you’ll have to go with a tour like Sydney Tall Ships.Land is in the process of being handed back to the “original owners”; many of the historical buildings are under threat of falling into disrepair and/or being bulldozed.

Nice place to wonder, run or to just relax in the sun as you watch the world go by. Oh...and great views of the Opera house and Harbour Bridge.

You can see the great views of Harbour Bridge, Opera House, Central Business Districts's high rise buildings or passing by ships and ferries from here.It is a tiny iseland which lies near the suburbsof Balmain and Millers Point, at the junction of Darling Harbour with the main channel of Sydney Harbour. In the past it has served as a quarry, convict stockade, explosives store, police station, fire station, boatyard and film set. Today the island is included in the Sydney Harbour National Park.

Beautiful place, a lovely Aboriginal landmark makes you appreciate the Aboriginal country we are. You'll need to book in advance to get a special cruise trip to get there or someone here did mention something about kayaking there. Beautiful scenery. Take your kids one day to show them the beautiful Goat Island.

Tranquil national park in the middle of Sydney Harbour. Need permits to land on island. Relics of island's industrial past scattered throughout the island. Worth a visit, if only for the stunning views of the harbour. Accessible by kayaks.

Goat Island ironically not goat friendly. Was told to leave Billy on the boat. They almost seemed puzzled I had brought him. I thought it was obvious. We'll find a home for you buddy, I promise.
