Well we have been going to this pub for decades as a family. Tonight we went after booking a table during the week. After being told we had no reservation we were happy to take a table in the marquee. While drinking out of plastic cups and thinking we should order soon, my daughter volunteered to go and get some menus. The blonde lady behind the bar verbally abused and humiliated my daughter, demanding to know if we had a booking. A security guard standing nearby was so embarrassed by the woman’s behaviour he offered menus to my daughter, but the woman behind the bar snatched them from him and continued to abuse my daughter. We obviously decided to leave and expressed our disappointment to the manager who then sided with the rude woman. Do yourselves a favour and do not visit this once great pub just to be abused

What a circus. Booked a table for 6.30pm. One kids’ meal arrived an hour later. Then one meal came 25 minutes after that. Then another, after we enquired about it. Am still waiting for the other meals. An absolute shambles. Avoid this place like the plague. 0/5Meals finally arrived: overcooked, bland, and horribly over-priced for what was served. Frozen beans and chicken tenders, a dismal amount of chips, watery laksa. We are so disappointed and so very sorry we didn’t read the reviews before coming here.

The Star Of The West Hotel
We were in Port Fairy for five nights, coming from Central Victoria. We tried the hotel the first night, and were very happy with our meals. So much so, we returned each night of our stay, and pretty much worked our way through most of the menu.. Every meal was great, and on our final night my wife had the Pork ribs which she described as fabulous. Service was always verygood and friendly We would highly recommend Star of the West hotel for great meals.

Didn't stay there but had a great evening meal and drinks. Great local atmosphere with fires keeping everyone warm. Guinness on tap. Loved my T Bone steak and scalloped potatoes and the wife had a huge fisherman's basket. Would go back anytime.

After a long day travelling to Port Fairy from rural Victoria for a well deserved holiday, my family and I were very keen for a delicious meal at the Star where we have visited multiple times over the last two decades.While arriving, my dad stated that he had a booking to which the manager said there was no booking made for us. After sorting through their mistake of not actually booking us when my dad had rang earlier in the week, we were sat in the marquee.After sitting for a while I decided to go and get some menus as they had failed to provide us with some while sitting us.I walked to the bar and asked the blonde lady who wears glasses if I could please have some menus. She was extremely rude and demanded to know where we were sitting, if we had a reservation, and who had sat us. Simply just from asking for a few menus!!!After finally getting some menus, ( not from her) while gobsmacked I described the horrible ordeal to my family and we decided to leave.As we left, I spoke to to the manager about what had happened and he was very happy to stand up for her and excuse her extreme rudeness for the fact that they were very busy.Do not visit this place. I thought it was just this specific lady behind the bar who doesn’t know how to talk to customers, but it is clear that the manager also doesn’t care.

First dinner night in port fairy. Lovely dining room spacious, comfortable and clean. Great service, excellent staff, friendly & courteous. Typical pub menu, food cooked beautifully & presented well.

The stump was fully booked so we decided to give the star a go, would have been better off driving back to Warrnambool & eating elsewhere. Asked for a bowl of chips for my Daughter, told no we can’t do a bowl of chips… But can do a chips & nuggets? A bit odd to me, never been refused a bowl of chips at a pup, but whatever.. Asked to swap our salad for veg on our mains, not an issue, sweet. However charged $2.50 extra each. Meals come with salad, sent it back because we asked & paid for veg, they come back with a tiny portion of frozen beans & corn, a piece of sweet potato, I think?? & a potato…. Really disappointing. First & last time we’ll waste our money.

We didn’t expect much from the pub but we were pleasantly surprised with the food and the speed of service. We had two kids meals (fish and chips which were a bit over cooked), a chicken schnitzel and the steak and Guinness pie. The schnitzel was great but the pie was superb. Mushy peas for the win! The only issue was it was on the expensive side. Flavour was very good. The beer selection there was the usual Carlton draught range range. Don’t expect anything special but the pirate life on tap was decent enough.

Closed for lunch at 2pm on a Saturday. strange time to close at any time. But especially what is apparently the biggest weekend in winter, in port fairy for the year. Went across the road to The Hub for lunch at 2:30. Almost couldn’t get a table it was so busy. Maybe extend your hours at high peak times?

Waited 1 hour and 20 mins for food… still never arrived. We have an 18 month old that was also not happy to wait an hour 20….I’m confused about places like this… yes it was busy but surely it’s not their first rodeo….Simply tell customers “could be an hour wait, is that ok”??Just ridiculous how they take your money at the bar when ordering, then make you wait a ludicrous amount of time.No apology, no reasons why… nothing.We were given a refund and grabbed a quick pie at the bakery next door.Very disappointed… I’m sure it’s fine during quiet seasons. Avoid during holiday and peak seasons.
