I wanna run an engine diagnosticWhen this old mechanic tryin to find the plug, i wanna ask him about the price, and he mad to me and said, “ im tryin to find the plug so no information or you can take your car and go!”Is that how you guys work with the customer?SMH

SCAMMERS!! Please under no circumstance go to this garage even if the wait is 2 weeks for other mechanics as it was with us.Our starter motor had broken so we called up every garage in Katherine and were told there would be a 2 week wait. Finally we called H&R Motors and expressed how desperate we were and the fact we couldn’t financially afford to wait around for 2 weeks to be fixed. When they said we could bring the car in that day and they’d have the part in 2 days we were very relieved. We weren’t initially given a quote, only told how much the part would cost ($378).When we came to collect the car 4 days later we were disgusted to be handed over an invoice worth almost $1200! After calling around multiple mechanics to get a quote for the same job we were told it would cost no more than $650-700.When we bought this info to the lady at the desk she immediately got defensive and started raising her voice at my partner for questioning the total amount we were charged. Whilst in a heated discussion about the cost (from her side), she then told him the work wasn’t completed by a qualified mechanic which is why the labour took 6 hours, instead of 2. She then tried to tell him That he was informed at the time of dropping off the car that there was no mechanic available and that the job would be completed by someone who was not a qualified mechanic. When he then raised the point that we shouldn’t be charged for 6 hours of a mechanic’s labour if it wasn’t completed by a mechanic, they then reduced the labour to 3 hours taking the total to $800 which we appreciated.After driving the car for 10 minutes we realised that our brakes were spongey and dangerously weak. Which means when they removed the brakes to fit the starter motor they weren’t bled correctly or there is air left in the brake line. This is obviously something we will have to pay for and fix at the next available chance.I would never normally do reviews but I felt this was necessary to be said, especially as we are backpackers and we want to warn anyone from going there.

Had my car for 5 weeks before they could tell me what was wrong with it. I rang 2/3 times a week to get information/a quote and was assured it they would call me back the next day. The experience was terrible, which was disheartening as initially they seemed to be so helpful. Would not recommend.

Most unfriendly persons I met so far during my three month visit. Gave them my car and payed for a diagnose. They found the problem and gave me a quote. The day after that they worked for four hours and wanted me to pay the amount we spoked about the day before that. Wasn’t easy to get the keys first and have a look. Same problems as the day before. After getting offended and not be treated well they had another look. Hope the car is good now. So don’t go there.

VERY AWFUL SERVICE, staff very RUDE, as the owner...DO NOT go in this garage. They said the car was dead (timing belt broken....) and good to go to the dump...! When I went back to the garage, I could OBVIOUSLY see that the timing belt was still in place! (I’m not a mechanic) but they didn’t want to take time to fix it, because, you know, “time is money”! Which I totally understand, but because I’m a backpacker doesn’t mean I can’t paye to fix it! I ask them to get MY car back and they said I had to paye $110 to get it back, why? I then towed the car to another place and the man had a quick look and confirm that the timing belt wasn’t broken, he had a better look the next day and said the car was fixable! H&R/Repco clearly wanted to keep my car, fix it and sell it. BACKPACKER (and others!) AVOID THIS PLACE. I don’t know how they can still be open with all the bad comments they got. Repco should do something about it.

Please ignore the negative reviews, as my experience with H & R Motors was the total OPPOSITE! I found the staff to be pleasant to deal with.I started experiencing issues with my car on Sunday and I brought my car to the garage on Monday morning, without notice/appointment. The mechanic accepted me as a walk-in" and was quick to diagnose the issue and order the parts needed for the repair. I was told the parts would be in on Tuesday and I'd be back on the road by lunchtime Tuesday.I got a call from the receptionist/admin assistant at 10am

This is the first review I have ever done but thought it was warranted to save others.I picked my car up and upon returning to the caravan park was dismayed to see the amount of oil still dripping from my car after an oil change, even though the invoice stated an engine degrease had been done.I expressly asked for the rear suspension to be greased and was informed that it had been done and the grease wiped off because the red dust sticks too it.Guess what .. not done but invoiced for it.I asked for a tyre rotation. The invoice stated tyre rotation and check and adjust all pressures.... guess what...tyre pressure of 50 psi on the front and 38 on the rear... so not done. All fluids under the bonnet checked and filled.....wiper washers fluid near empty, another invoiced item not done .I'm sure after a bit of hard work I will be able to get the oil and grease out of the carpet mat.Did they care that I was concerned.....not one bit... BewareIn response to your reply, I did call you to discuss my concerns,. Everytime I found something you had charged me for and not done!I think your last comment to me was" yeh what ever....Please avoid at all cost!!"

Largely due to lack of service options on the weekend, I assume, Katherine mechanics were swamped this Monday. After making the round and discovering that we could only receive service The next morning and being quoted a $44 minimum and $88 maximum for the work we needed done we ended up at HR Motors. We needed to have a new set of distributor points installed, a part we had already purchased from the Repco center. Initially we were told they wouldn't be able to work us in then we were told that we would have to pay $150 for a full service hour since the mechanic would have to be pulled off another job.We were in shock at the cost but agreed to pay it as we need to get back on the road. Shortly after beginning work we were told that we would need the condenser replaced as well which would cost another $20 but no additional labor. After less than an hour our vehicle was ready to go. Listed on the receipt was a $120 labor hour along with a $16 fee for workshop materials and a $14 environmental disposal fee. On the passenger seat of the vehicle we found the parts that had been pulled out so I'm not sure where the disposal fee comes into play. These $30 were factored into the labor hour before work had even begun. To be honest, I feel a little taken advantage of and not for the first time by Aussie mechanic shops. It seems that when people know you are in a bind they will leech every penny from you.If coming through Katherine call ahead for any autowork and get a price. These guys will fix your car, but they will charge twice as much to do it.

Great experience today. The tow truck driver / mechanic was very honest, down to earth and let us know exactly what the problem was in terms we could understand. Issue was resolved in 30 minutes and we were back on the road. Thanks

I see a range of mixed reviews for this business. I want to share my positive experience. I called from Tennant Ck that I needed new disk brakes and rotors. Laurel and team ordered/freighted the parts in over night. I drove through to Katherine and dropped my Amarok in at 8am and I was back on the road to Jabiru by 11am. I was much relieved, grateful and I cannot fault the service or workmanship. My thanks to the H&R Motors team.
