Ginger and Spice
Ginger and Spice ticked almost all the right boxes. Great ambience, fantastic service, lot of niceties, including complimentary fortune cookies and wet towels. We ordered a sweet and sour pork, a ginger beef, and a hot and sour soup. I really wanted to like the ginger beef, which smelled incredible; without the sauce, the meat was rather bland, which I found disappointing. On the bright side, the hot and sour soup was delicious and the sweet and sour pork worked well. Overall, a deep menu that bodes well for my return because I'm sure to give a place like this another shot.

One of my favourite places to eat in Gungahlin. The cumin lamb and egg plant is delicious here. The thing I like the most about this place is their ability to balance the texture of the meat: the right amount of bicarb to tenderise. Also, they have nailed their velveting technique for their veggie dishes. Thin crunch on the outside with that moisture locked in on the inside and the right amount of sauce. Only taking one star off because some dish can use less sugar in it.

As always Ginger and Spice is a stand out for the casual and take away Chinese dining scene. They don't skimp on the protein or the sauce. I have never been disappointed with my food from this venue.

Update: they have new leather look chairs since the last time I visited. I tried the hot & sour soup, you need to add vinegar to make it sour. It had a lot of white pepper but not much ( if any) chilli.Previous review:The most iconic establishment in Gungahlin. Everyone goes to Ginger and Spice when they can't decide where to go. This is its real strength, rather than service or food. ( But the food and service is also good). My second most frequented restaurant in Gungahlin, second only to Asian Tea House. Some things have changed, including the new look menu.A friend raved about the dumplings. For me, they were quite good. I had the Szechuan Duck, it was ok. The omelette with gravy was also nice. It's the gravy that makes the dish special. We were offered 2 fortune cookies, which were equally bland and forgettable inside as they were outside. A fun way to end the meal.Overall experience: Reliable as always, can't go wrong.

The best option for Chinese food in Gungahlin. Service is always friendly and owner is amazing. Would highly recommend the garlic steamed prawns from the Chinese menu.

Being visitors to Canberra, we were unsure where to take our family of 5 for dinner. After reading reviews we settled on Ginger and Spice and were not disappointed! The food was incredible, especially the hand made dumplings and the green curry. It was family friendly, would definitely recommend if you are after good quality Chinese food.

Really disappointed in the quality the chicken used for their kung po chicken. They used low quality cheap drumstick meat with lots of tendons instead of chicken breast meat that's suppose to be used in kung po chicken. This is honestly the worst kung po chicken I have ever tasted in my life. As a chinese. I can tell you this from the heartAlso they charge $4 for a 375ml can of coke, ridiculous.edit: in response to owner: I asked to confirm that the chicken was instead leg part because I was writing this review. Normally Chinese charge $2.5 to 3 for a can of coke and use breast meat for their kung pao chicken. I only ate about 1/3 of the dish, mostly the rice. Even the fried rice was subpar. I paid $17.5 for my meal and was still very hungry because I ate only a little bit.

We ordered $59 worth of food from this place it was terrible. The fried rice was very cold, which is a health hazard. The rest of the food was incredibly average, there was no taste. All this hype for nothing, save your money and spare yourself the food poisoning from the cold food! :)

The restaurant has been our go to for a few years now and has changed a bit over time. The food is quite delicious (though the portions have shrunken a bit). The interior was upgraded a while back and then toned down shortly after. It's comfortable but nothing fancy. The service is just passable. Everyone seems to be doing their job but not with a happy face (apart from the lovely lady who makes the dumplings who always gives us a smile). The place really has the potential to be great and I hope they'll get there eventually.Update June 2024:It seems everything is still going slowly downhill with this restaurant. The portions are getting smaller and generally seem to be skimping on the good stuff. The fried rice was not prepared fresh and tasted pretty bland and dry.The service is still pretty unfriendly and it seems they want you out the door as quickly as possible.Shame.
