Hiking trail to various informal campsites and Federation Hut camping area. Some camping possible past trail entry for hikers, but no facilities. Toilets at Federation Hut, elevation 1600m.Parking at trailhead for hikers. Free drive-in camping nearby at Smoko Campground.

Amazing! But very (very!) hard hike up the top for me! Be prepared and take your time.

A fantastic track to Mt Feathertop. Approx 9km of uphill to Federation Hut, then about 2km more to the summit. The grade is moderate but steepens near the summit. A good standard of fitness is required. The track is well formed and maintained.

Continual incline from Harrietville until Federation Hut; great access to multiple ridge trails from Fed Hut. Could camp at the Old Federatiom Hut site or out on Picture Point if not wanting to get all the way to Fed Hut before making camp. Makes a good 3 day hike (recommend 3 days instead of the common 2 days) or an even better start to a week long trip in this area.

Great trail, the 1300m (ish) of elevation each way is pretty brutal on the way back down though.Took us about 7:45 with lunch at Federation Hut and a decent stopover at Feathertop's summit.

Great climb up to Feathertop. Reasonable grade - fairly consistent climb all the way up. Range of vegetation type is great, particularly when you get higher up. Old federation hut camping site and new Federation but camping site were in good condition. The track had a few fallen trees and small sections where erosion has cause the track to fall into a gulley but not serious.Watch out for Red Belly Black snakes in warmer months. We saw two on the track and had to wait for them to move out of the way.Feathertop is beautiful. The views normally spectacular but marred by the smoke from nearby fires.Watch out for March flies.Didn't check the creek near Old Federation Hut but the spring further down closer to Tobias Gap was flowing even in this drought.Telstra reception was good good up and back down which is impressive.

Great variation in vegetation from ferns in the lower slope gullies to the alpine peaks at the top. I'd recommend walking down hill rather than up :)

Track was a bit overgrown in places but definitely the best way to get to Mount Feathertop in winter.
