I tried applying for a job but was required by the system to submit a photo of myself. I found this strange as I have never come across a company that asked for such information. When I reached out to ask the reason for this, I was questioned back by the consultant as if it is normal to request a photo - making it feel like the company selects based on physical appearance. They told me it was for identification purposes to ensure the consultant was meeting the correct person via zoom in the next step. You do not need to know what someone looks like before deciding whether or not you'll interview them. This doesn't make sense. The person, whoever it may be, will either present themself well or not and a decision will be made based on their experience. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt and attempted to inquire about the salary the role offered and was given yet another vague response. The unnecessary element of secrecy is not attractive to job-seekers, nor does it present confidence. Your team should consider more transparency to the people who will actually be using your services.
