Fabulous place, great breakfasts and wonderful hosts. Nothing better than sitting around a campfire with complementary port, what’s not to like! Highly recommended if you are looking for a unique place to stay while exploring Longreach, Winton and surrounds.

If you enjoy more than just a place to sleep and want somewhere to sit back, relax and unwind while still taking in the full experience of a location then you can’t go past the Mitchell Grass Retreat in Longreach.The hosts David and Tanya have been in the hospitality industry for many years and know all the little extra touches that make your stay something special to remember. Weather permitting David will light a fire in the communal fire pit as the afternoon turns to night. There is nothing better than sitting around a fire in outback Queensland, sipping on a glass of complimentary port and roasting marshmallows (marshmallows and roasting forks provided) while reflecting on the adventures of the day and looking up to a most beautiful stary night sky.Each glamping tent has a practical yet stylish kitchenette including a microwave oven, full size fridge / freezer, toaster and kettle. Each tent also has a gas BBQ for outdoor cooking. Instead of just the basic complimentary tea and coffee one would normally find, we also had ground coffee and plunger pot provided for a more upmarket morning brew provided. In addition, a basket of continental breakfast to die for was provided every morning. This included toasted muesli, a fresh bread (we had raison loaf and banana bread), vanilla bean yogurt and berry compote.The tents are huge and have a very comfortable bed, ceiling fan (and even a split system air conditioner), dining room table with chairs and some comfy reading chairs. The tents have a front deck which is accessed by sliding glass doors which have secure screens to help get the insects out if the doors are open. There is also a smaller back deck which can be useful for some “me time”. The family tent which we stayed in has a big well-appointed ensuite bathroom with a shower, toilet and basin. Again, Tanya’s little touches shine through with inclusions such as a shaving mirror and a quality range of toiletries provided.Our children enjoyed the swimming pool and the freedom to explore the natural bush surrounding the tents. One of the features of Mitchel Grass Retreat which is almost unique to any other accommodation offered in Longreach is that you really feel you are in the “outback”. Being able to watch the perfect sunsets every single afternoon (see photos – these will take your breath away) without having to go on a special tour and having the opportunity to experience wild kangaroos and emu right on your doorstep is something very special.Mitchell Grass Retreat is perfect for couples (couples tents get a bath overlooking the sunset and landscape) and small families. The family tents include “swags” for children which made our children feel like they were really camping. There are no TV’s (thank heavens) in any of the tents but the wifi is excellent so you can keep in touch with the outside world (or Netflix show).In Longreach, nothing is really far and while Mitchell Grass Retreat is “out of town” – this equates to a 5 min drive from the town centre and about 10 minutes from the Qantas Museum and Stockmans Hall of Fame.Our stay at Michell Grass Retreat was certainly one of our highlights and spoiling yourself with some outback luxury accommodation whilst visiting Longreach is highly recommended.

Terrific place to stay, if you want peace and quiet, romance or just a great place to chill this is the place for you. Go camping in glamping tents with all the luxury of a motel with extras. Everything laid on - breakfast, cheese platters, wine or a BBQ pack all you have to do is ask. Just pack your essentials, arrive and enjoy. Don't forget the tours and helicopter rides that pick you up and drop you off at the tent.

The hosts are amazing, beautiful friendly people who go above and beyond to make your stay amazing. The setting is great, the accommadation is wonderful, clean, modern, comfortable and attention to detail everywhere. I cant wait to go back!

Stayed here for three nights. Great experience with campfires and toasted marshmallows (supplied) each night with complimentary port provided by hosts Tanya & David. With breakfasts included in the tariff and a BBQ on the deck allows you to cook dinners while sipping a beer and looking at the fabulous sunsets. The tent was self contained with a cosy bed and doona and even on the coldest nights you did not feel the cold which one night was zero. A memorable outing and hosts were excellent. Try it!

We immensely enjoyed our stay at Mitchell Grass Retreat. Our tent was very comfortable with all the amenities of a premium hotel. Amazing sunsets, camp fires and scrumptious brekkie delivered every morning to top it off.

Outstanding stay, the views, facilities and the extras provided by amazing hosts made our stay one to remember and actually one of the best we've had. We are already planning a return longer stay, cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you.

What an amazing stay. Katrina was very welcoming showed us around. Very clean room and everything you need. We got the bbq pack which was so yum. Our own fire pit, marshmallows provided. Everything has been thought out perfectly. Breakfast arrived early morning which was perfect for us. This is a must stay when in longreach. One of the best safari tents we have stayed in. 10/10
