Stopped in for a beverage in summer. It was so peaceful on the outdoor seating area looking over the mountain view. Would definitely recommend.

Undoubtedly great location for lunch and dinner.Menu I found was a little light on.Burger good quality. Chips ok.Burger actually comes with chips but it didn't reflect hence ordering a separate side of chips.Little pricey but understandably for the unique location.Dress warm.

This review is about the restaurant/ pub. After a tiring day of tobogganing & snow fun we were pleasantly surprised by the food at the General, specially so late in the afternoon. Food was delicious, the staff are friendly & professional. I never thought I would have one of the best chicken burgers I've ever had on the Alps of Mt Hotham.

Stopped for a hot choccy after riding the pushy up from Bright. The atmosphere was good. The guy behind the counter was gruff, but the hot chocolate was good.

It’s the place to go. It’s the place to be. It’s the place to be seen. But there is so much more about The General. We came here on a Friday night after the drive up from Melbourne for a weekend of skiing.We got there right on 6 and other tables were full with families. Big kids, little kids, toddlers and babies. They were devouring their pizza and the parents were able to relax somewhat while the kids ate and kept themselves amused.We drank great wine and then ordered dinner. Salmon. Steak. Pizza. It was all delicious. The portion sizes were excellent and taste fabulous. Steak cooked to perfection.Bonus was that the tv was on televising the football. And no doubt it would’ve been televising The Ashes due later that night.There are two parts to The General - upstairs and downstairs. I’m told there is a great decking outside area but not the season to check it out.We left around 9pm and the place was crazy busy with people. Lots of cheers, catchups, smiles and more. Atmosphere was amazing.A must visit.

We arrived around 6:30pm so we could have dinner and do some shopping, post office was unmanned (all good) proceeded to the bar to pay for shopping. Waited 15 minutes whilst one of the bartenders mopped the floor three times over, the second bartender dragging his feet around spilling drinks behind the counter and looking at us frequently with the third bartender putting whipped cream on drinks then subsequently licking the whipped cream dispenser clean… then continuing to make drinks with same dispenser as well as having whipped cream still on his lip. Bad service, obvious poor hygiene and training, will not be enthusiastically going again after fifteen years of The General being the favourite venue of choice.

Ah, the general. Everything you'll ever need in an alpine cafe/pub. Good food, good coffee, good views. Great atmosphere. They've even got a mini supermarket with bottle shop! Fantastic.
