Please ignore my previous post about the closed all abilities hide. Turns out that it's operated by Melbourne Water. Edithvale bird hide is fabulous! Very helpful volunteers available to provide information

Definitely well worth the visit! Birding away from the sun, what more can you ask for! Double story building with lots of angle to view from! Facility also provides access to magazines and bird field guide.Doesn't have a toilet but the nearest toilet is only 500m away at Edithvale Recreation Reserve.Well done to the volunteer team for opening the place for visitor's to enjoy. :)

Just wondering why the large the large, newer hide with the all abilities ramp is not open when the sign by the road indicates that it should be? (Sunday afternoon)

The bird hide, at this time of year - January, is lower than the reeds, so you can't see the water or the birds, so for me it's a seasonal visit. Just up the road a little is another elevated building, which is better this time of year

Beautiful spot, shame the Hide is closed and no option to circumnavigate the lake

Edithvale Wetlands Bird Hide
Amazing bird watching area. Open every Sunday and every second Saturday between 1pm to 5pm (check the website for more details). It can be closed if it is too dry or the area becomes flooded. There is plenty of parking on a gravel road. There is a smaller bird watching area (you will be disappointed if you think that is the place) but the main one is actually through a set of gates. There are signs on the gate directing you to the bird hide. Note the signage looks abit dodgy" but do not let that throw you off.The bird hide itself is a two story wooden building which was suprising cool in the hot weather. It was clean and well maintained. There are places to sit and there are windows that provide a view of the immense wetlands. In the hide are keen and friendly volunteers eager to show and educate you on the birds of the area. Remember to sign the book on your way in as more visitor they get more funding. When I visited there were several keen bird watchers and photographers. Will definately be back and continue to upload new birds that I spot!"
