Jin Wu Koon Karate

I trained in JWK Karate for several years and found it a great way of getting fit and flexible while learning karate technique. Sensei Light challenged us and had us all giving a 100% and always encouraged a positive attitude in class and outside class. I really enjoyed my training with Ric and learning from him.

I have known trained and respected Ric since the mid 70's. We we members of state and national karate teams initially. After meeting our coach and current mentor Sifu Chan Cheuk Fai, we became part of Jin Wu Koon contact fighting team, we travelled and fought in Malaysia in 1980 then to Hong Kong in 1981.The end result of training martial arts is that you can defend yourself but there is so much more to learn when you make martial arts a part of your life.I would highly recommend Sensei Ric Light if you are looking to start Karate.

Ric Light is an amazing sensei who projects his powerful and positive physical and mental energy into every class. He is a brilliant and inspiring instructor with deep knowledge of the art and great passion for it. He loves what he does and uses his incredible energy to motivate all his students. He also develops strong mutual respect between all students and him. His classes were always creative and stimulating and I can’t recommend him highly enough.

JWK Karate in Byron Bay was just what I needed and made a difference to my life. Sensei Ric Light motivated all his students, was understanding, considerate and completely aware of my individual needs as a woman in the martial arts environment. I discovered strength and confidence coupled with a fitness level I had not experienced previously and highly recommend Sensei Ric Light as an excellent mentor for women of all ages

Sensei Ric started up a youth karate group last term which my 8 year old son absolutely loves. Rics teaching style is everything I hoped it would be based on my experience with martial arts as a kid, he strikes a good balance between teaching the kids the physical elements as well as the focus, discipline and tradition of karate.
