We had specifically sought out Halal food, and this particular Afghan restaurant came up on our radar. Needless to say, we were thrilled, given our love for Afghan cuisine.The place is located on a lively street in Fitzroy (like Sydney’s Newtown) with many restaurants and entertainment places lined up. The atmosphere already felt great. Upon stepping into the restaurant, the decor immediately transports you to the Middle East, adorned with an array of Afghan keepsakes, photographs, and design pieces. The ambiance is quaint, cozy, and exudes a warm atmosphere. We ordered, with the waitress offering up ideas and food came in about 15-20 minutes.The food was absolutely delicious. This was the first time I’ve had a ‘fine dining’ take on Afghan food, and I have tried many Afghan places at home in Sydney. Our selection comprised of Mantoo, Ashak, Chicken Lawand/Kandahari Kabuli Pulaw and Beef stew; each dish boasting hearty portions, tender meat, and flavorful rice.

We tried their feed me menu and it was good. The kebabs were well done and tasty. Their main dishes were okay, everything tasted the same.I love the ambience and decor. The staff are friendly and take good care of their guests.My rating for food would be between a 3 and 4. I would rate their kebabs a 4.5 as they were flavourful.

Really a fantastic place for excellent authentic food, ambience and the wonderful owners and wait staff. Make sure you choose one of the several choices of 'feed me' which gives you a great journey of all types of Afghani dishes. Oh, and they have an excellent choice of reasonably priced wines to go with it all.

Not bad. Not great either. Super slow service. It took 15 mins just to take our order, 30 mins to get the entrees and then another 1h15m to get our mains. Food was very salty. A bit on the pricey side. Also, we paid $14 for a glass of wine that costs $10 for a whole bottle at the local liquor store. All in all, not worth it. Wouldn’t go back.

Honestly, after 10 days in Melbourne we chanced upon this Fitzroy restaurant and it was the highlight of our dining experiences. From lovely atmosphere, fabulous service and divine food, we would have returned again but we were leaving the next day. What a treasure of a place. Highly highly recommend.

We tried coming into this place once but kitchen had closed. We tried again last night, place had just closed, but the charismatic and cheeky Humayra kindly let us in. She graces this art gallery-turned-restaurant like it's her own treasured home.We had the lamb Lawand with rice, and it tasted out of this world. Savoury, aromatic, indulgent. Felt like home. Other notable mentions were the lamb Mantoo, and leek and chive Aashak. Chef's kiss.The kind of flavours you didn't know you had to try. I recommend you visit, or if you're walking across, come in. It's worth it.(Sorry not sorry for missing the 'closed' sign Humayra.)

Great dine in restaurant with a great menu, lots of choices of starters, rice, kebabs and stews/curries. Lovely host that went absolutely above and beyond! I recommend the sultani kebabs above all, better than anywhere else I've tried. Will certainly be back for more.
