I can highly recommend the Josh Cohen School of Music for adults learning piano for the first time or returning after a long gap like me (if you are thinking about it just do it!!- I found the school on google and am so glad I did!). Learning piano as a solo instrument can be a solitary exercise- what I didn't expect was the fantastic community Josh has built up around the school- there are workshops, recitals, choir, and lots of small intimate gigs in the space by some awesome performers including musicians from the school. It's great to meet other adult learners and have opportunities to perform in a very forgiving environment.I can recommend the school for guitar lessons, piano lessons for adults and children, singing lessons- some of my family have experienced all of the above. The teachers are amazing and all great musicians as well as teachers. And front of house staff are awesome :)

I love JCSoM. I have played the piano for many years, but only since I started taking lessons at JCSoM have I felt the support and encouragement to perform at recitals. The staff are lovely and cater for everyone - from absolute beginners to experienced musicians. If you are looking for a music school for piano, guitar or voice in Melbourne, stop looking, this is it.

The Michael Avery School of Music is great! The people - teachers and administration staff - are all so skilled and so friendly at the same time. I cannot recommend MASoM highly enough! Whether you are a beginner or advanced, a child or an adult, this will be a great music school for you. We have really enjoyed the 4+ years we've been at the school.

Josh Cohen School of Music is an inspiring place where students learn from talented and very dedicated musicians. The teachers are not only highly skilled in teaching the craft of playing, but more importantly encourage students to find their own voice through music and develop the confidence to perform in front of others. Both my kids attend the school studying different instruments and their progress has been amazing - both in their technique and their appreciation of music and performance. The school is also a vibrant community that encourages a sense of belonging and where both students and teachers participate together in jam sessions and bi-annual concerts. A highly recommended place for anyone interested in high quality music education.

The JCSoM is an engaging music school that has a very friendly and welcoming environment. As a beginner in piano, I found the inclusive nature of the school comforting and have always been encouraged to take part in the free additional workshops that are offered. I always look forward to my piano lessons with Laura and appreciate her patience, encouragement and ability to adapt her teaching to my learning style. The quality of the service in its entirety cannot be faulted and I would not hesitate to recommend the JCSoM on any given occasion.

The JCSoM is a fantastic place to learn how to play music. It has a strong emphasis on community, which is exactly what I want from a music school. The teachers are outstanding and the staff are warm and friendly. The facilities are top notch. The passion for music not only from Josh Cohen himself but the teachers and staff can be felt in the entire place, which makes learning how to play music even more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this place.

I'm a grown-up trying to learn piano for the first time and I'm super happy with the Josh Cohen School of Music. Josh and co are lovely people who really know their stuff. They do a fabulous job of keeping it interesting with fun tunes to learn, workshops and concerts. I particularly appreciate how patient they are with beginners like me. Highly recommended!

My daughter attends for piano and voice lessons. She always finds the lessons fun and I am very happy with her progress. The teachers have all been excellent. I get feedback every week and get to see her perform either if her teacher asks me to pop in to see how well she is doing, or at the twice a year school recitals. The free kids jams and other workshops are a quality added bonus and my daughter is always keen to attend these. The admin staff are also excellent - extremely organised. The waiting room is comfortable and an up to date selection of magazines and a selection of books and games for siblings makes the wait no problem. I am very happy to spend money on these lessons.

Both my children do piano lessons here and I have taken up adult lessons based on their experiences and the overwhelmingly positive atmosphere of Josh's school.The staff and teachers are excellent. The environment is modern, friendly and stimulating and the pace of learning is progressive and fun, whilst also challenging the children and myself to progress.I would highly recommend lessons here!

My daughter has been attending JCSoM for a year now, she has professed really well. I'd recommend the school for their excellent coaching, good teachers and always there to guide you. My daughter loves her class with Josh and Stu's theory. Kids jam is another concept that is brilliant for kids to work together and for us parents to watch mini maestros at play!!
