We had our wedding at The Fitzroy Inn in April and the whole experience was absolutely lovely. We had so many compliments from our guests on how wonderful the grounds were, and it was exactly the unique and peaceful venue we were after for our special day. John, Carol, and the team made sure we were well looked after. Thank you for your warm welcome, attention to detail, lovely rooms and your flexibility. We couldn't have asked for a better venue and it is certainly a day to remember.

Beautiful little gem we found on our road trip. Very cosy, comfortable and clean. We were able to walk around the beautiful gardens and breakfast was also included. The staff were amazing and made us feel very welcome. Thanks again, we will be back!!!

This is a great place to stay. Beautiful historic guesthouse, with large tastefully decorated and well appointed rooms looking over gardens. The staff are friendly and helpful and on top of all this, its pet friendly and reasonably priced. Our puppy enjoyed the 5 acres of gardens. We used the Inn as a base for exploring the Southern Highlands and we would definitely stay here again.

Picked this place by internet search as it looked nice.I was not disappointed. I loved the place and the manager Carol was outstanding and very helpful. I’ve read the other reviews and found a few older ones where they were not as happy as they might be for various reasons. It is not like your every day modern motel and you shouldn’t expect it to be. It is the oldest continuing inn in Australia (1836) and it has that old fashioned comfortable feeling but with mod cons like good showers, toilets etc, and beautiful grounds to wander around in and appreciate. Our group stayed in rooms 1 and 2, very large and very nicely setup. Not the chrome, tiles and paint of a modern motel but well set up with furnishings and items in good condition that come from a bygone more relaxed, peaceful and comfortable time. Everything worked ok, but as you might expect in an old house, not as many power points in places you might want them for computers, charging stations etc. Wifi worked fine. It has been mentioned that the train line is quite close and might possibly be a disturbance for light sleepers - though I had no trouble at all with that. A continental breakfast was available with all the items you might want. The rooms a available for lounging and relaxation were lovely, as mentioned, the comfort of a bygone era. Furnishings, pictures and ornaments are in keeping with the style and ambience of the place. Of interest is a cellar with an internal well and a dungeon once used to hold prisoners being transported to the prison at Berrima. There is a large atrium and a dining room with a large stage, would be good for parties and weddings though with only three of us, I have no experience of how that would be organised. There are some rooms not in the main Inn building which I did not see inside, and I was told there are plans to add a lot more rooms.Rooms were clean. In the morning there were a couple of workers around doing various odd jobs so maintenance and upkeep is being done.To those who have Electric Vehicles, there are two charging stations available in the parking lot, a Tesla one and a Porsche one, I guess very convenient for some.As mentioned, I loved the place and if visiting the area again, would stay there again.

Loved this place. We looked at the Inn as a potential place for our wedding but ended up having that elsewhere. This time around friends of ours got married at Bendooleys Estate and we opted to stay here for a couple of days. It did not disappoint. The feel of the old Inn is very homestead like and is warm and inviting. The number of open spaces and room for guests to relax in is great, certainly no lack of those. It also has several fireplaces which are ready to be lit, well stocked with firewood, matches and fire starters so even the novice can get a fire going. There is also a gas heater for those who prefer direct heat without the effort of the fireplace, but let’s be honest there is something incredibly therapeutic about lighting a fire.We stayed in room number 5, at the front of the property just above the front room with the double fireplaces. The size of the room is impressive and the feel is warm. The bathroom is sizeable and comes well equipped with all necessities. The bed itself was fine, sturdy despite a bit of creaking. It was a comfy sleep. The room has a pod coffee machine with several pods available for coffee making which is a nice touch. It also has an electric kettle for tea. We were provided with two little cartons of milk, which is great because most hotels never give you enough milk. We were surprised to also find we were supplier with some small cereal packets, some energy bars, two cartons of juice (apple), little packed chocolate croissants and even fresh fruit. Not things you expect in every hotel, so definitely impressed by it.Service was excellent. The two dogs roaming the property at times are a wonderful addition and the lady who was cleaning the rooms was most attentive. The grounds and gardens themselves are wonderful to wander through and relaxing.Train lines are pretty close to the building, maybe about 150 metres or so on the other side of the road and a block of land, and at night the trains don’t stop, so expect some noise from that. It didn’t really bother us much and we slept fine. There is an iron and ironing board to allow you to get ready. The ironing board lacks any padding which is odd. It would have helped the ironing process. It’s just fabric over the metal board. We struggled to find a pen. That would have been a handy addition.None of those things really knocked any points off though. Would still give this a 5 star rating and we’ll be back.

A beautiful old inn rich in history, which was easy to find out about with a short history walk, lots of story boards and old photo's around the place. The gardens are really pretty. The room was clean and well stocked with coffee, tea and a simple breakfast. We loved our stay and will definitely be back. Thanks to all at the Fitzroy Inn.

Very nice place, historic and interesting. The fire rooms are nice and cosy, the breakfast area is very nice for continental and a coffee. Very nice staff and good service. Great location for Bowral. We had the loft room, which was restricted obviously, and the bathroom very tiny, but we could live with that easily for one night. The problem was the bed! Two extremely hard/firm single beds pushed together with a seam in the middle so you couldn’t cuddle up. It was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in, without any doubt. I can’t explain in any more detail just how bad it was, except to say, it felt historic too! A nice and relatively cheap mattress topper would help. I can’t believe that no one else has complained about it. Unfortunately, we won’t be back.

As nice as this place is, I cannot recommend it because of how much trouble the owner John put us through. For background, my wife and I had our wedding here.Issues:- The original quote & contract was meaningless. One month before the wedding we were charged approx 2k-3k extra. When we argued and stated the terms of the contract, John simply told us to “go somewhere else” or “get a lawyer”. Of course we were reluctant to do either with it being so close to the wedding. We felt taken advantage of.- A table was missing from the reception.- We had to setup the ceremony and clean the chairs (some of which were quite dirty). Also had to clean the signing chair and table.- John told us on the day before that we were not allowed candles in the reception (even though we had it in writing).- Additional payments were requested even on the wedding day (e.g. John forgot about a pet surcharge).- When we had less guests than expected, we were not refunded based on the original pp (per person) quote.- The drink selection was wrong. When we approached John about the incorrect cider brand, he simply responded “what’s the difference?”. Luckily John’s lovely subordinate Carol went out of her way to buy the correct drinks for us.- The check-in time for guests was wrong. We were told 11am, then John got upset when guests arrived at 11am.The venue is very pretty and some of the staff are extremely helpful. Especially Carol who was essentially our wedding coordinator. But unfortunately Carol is not the boss, and John seems stubborn to get his unfair way no matter what. So I cannot recommend this venue.

This place has great potential. My partner and I stayed here last night in room number 3. The old house is beautiful, charming and a wonderful feat of restoration! The grounds are also gorgeous for a walk around. However, a rushed greeting and seemingly no staff made the experience a bit strange. Perhaps, being holiday period some staff are on leave. Lipstick marked wine glasses greeted us in our room, two wifi passwords that didn’t work (there are two passwords given: a laminated card on the wall and a different password in the guest manual). Some feedback to our host would be to take payment in the morning when we checkout, instead of on arrival. That way a goodbye interaction could of been had and this feedback been given verbally.
