We loved it. It's a small museum but full of history. I really recommend going and spending a couple of hours watching all the surf boards, surf suites, etc reading the history behind each item.

Stopped in on a weekend away. I was really impressed with the items in the collection and didn't realise surfing was such an old craft. I learned a lot about the history of surfing, the evolution of the boards and the technology that goes into making a great board. We spent about 1.5 hours in the museum but there us a 90 minute feature film that shows in the theatre, so allow more time if you want to watch the whole thing.

Don’t pass a chance up to go in here – we nearly did thinking it was “just another museum”. Not so. We wandered around the interior of the Tourist Info Centre in Torquay and bought some gifts and then as it started to rain, thought we would pay the few dollars to have a look around, not thinking it would take long. The building is huge, there is so much information about surf festivals and competitions, surfers themselves, champions and early pioneers of the surf movement, the evolution of surf boards and many boards belong to past champions. There is an awesome tv exhibition of the waves and how to ride them and that is on for a while so be prepared to sit and watch. There are interactive green screen surf spots where you can take your own picture on the waves and email it back to yourselves. One of the highlights was a set of surfboards which had been written all over as if from a teenager to his parents, absolutely hilarious, I forget what it was called but well worth the read.In all – a great visit and one I am really glad we did not miss.

The history of surf is nicely explained. You have a family ticket (2a 3c) at AUD25. The silver surfer or the board where you can try to surf are not there anymore. They could do the museum amore interactive for the children. V

This is a well presented timeline of the surfing history. I enjoyed walking around. Respectful entry price and would recommend this museum to everyone any age. One small disappointment was to see the McCoy boards in a dark corner, not to be noticed.

Female surfers have the smallest notations and exhibits. One of Layne Bs notations lists an outdated 6 times world champion"? Another was updated with 7. Zero female surf board artists. The films are all male and male music as well. Except for Steph Gilmore which then follows a 5 min montage of all the other females squished together with *gasp* the only heard female band/vocalist. Hardly anything in the films with Layne. So wrong. Lots of 5-10mins sections for straight white men (nose riders
