I loved everything about this tour. I found the walking quite demanding as the distances were a little longer than advertised due to recent heavy rain. However I was almost certainly the oldest person in my group and I almost made the distance. The houseboat with the ensuite bathrooms was lovely and the food and wine were everything I'd hoped for. The guides were fabulous, so good humoured and so knowledgeable. A most memorable holiday!

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!Very disappointed with low quality and unsafe food preparation on this tour in early September. They had a range of new staff on board who clearly have no training in food preparation or service. The website boasts ‘chef-designed menu’ but the reality was a hostess with no prior food service experience trying to dish up partly pre-prepared meals. The food hygiene was appalling- mashed potato being spread on plates with bare hands, hostess checking the temperature of the soup by dipping her finger in a bowl, sticking it in her mouth and the serving the bowl to a guest, preparing a cheese platter and then staff helping themselves to it before serving it to guests!! And no hand washing to be seen before touching food. The fact that staff were breaching all of these food safety rules in front of the guests showed that they were clueless about the risks.Scenery on the Murray River is nice but food quality and offering is more school tuckshop experience than gourmet. Don’t waste your money or risk food poisoning!

I completed my Murray River Walk in May this year. I loved the inclusions of bush foods. Sauces were particularly good! That was such a special experience to have with the group. Particularly enjoyed morning tea on the viewing platform and the silent walk through Pilby (connecting with trees!). Everyone should do this walk :-)

We have just completed the Murray River Walk - what a great walk and experience to do with a small group of like minded people and some amazing guides and support ladies. We were so well looked after and pampered from dawn to well after dusk - I particularly enjoyed learning so much about the murray river area and its history from our very passionate guide and - and we were in awe of the size and importance of the murray river basin- particularly when you walk through such a tiny area over the 4 days. Thanks to a great team led by Jo for looking after us so well and making it a fun, educational and memorable experience. PS - we loved our nightly spa - no tired muscles or joints for us! sue & terry

We recently completed this walk and had a wonderful time exploring a number of parts of the Murray River. All the staff were super competent and took great trouble to make sure we wanted for nothing. We particularly enjoyed the fact that we saw many aspects of the river due to our house boat moving quite some distance along the river each day. Much varied scenery to be admired. The catering was excellent in all respects with virtually all food and wine being sourced locally. Would highly recommend.

Our Murray River Walk was extraordinary in so many ways. Our guides offered insights to the indigenous people's lives and many artifacts in the environment and to the challenges of conservation and flooding in the Murray basin. I treasured my time walking quietly and listening to the bird song. The house boat was comfortable and spacious. Gourmet meals were accompanied by local So. Australia wines. I will always remember the skies at sunset. This is truly a 'great walk of Australia' and well worth the long trip from California

I cannot compliment the Murray River Trails crew enough – they were clearly experienced and their product/environment knowledge was incredible. They were passionate, professional and most importantly they worked so beautifully as a team. The attention to detail presenting morning teas, lunches and dinners was amazing with an evening menu that any silver service restaurant anywhere in the world would struggle to replicate. I could go on, but instead, I penned a poem about my ( our group) experience. My heartiest congratulations – what the team do at Murray River Trails is very special and they should be so incredibly proud. In the bush - 22.08.22 Murray River TrailCome walk with me through time….in the bush on the banks of the mighty MurrayThere’s no traffic, no wifi, no phone, no distractions, just the gentle whisper of thousand-year-oldtreesWhere hi-rise living is a hollow or a nest of sticks high in the boughs of a craggy old trunkThe highway here is a bed of untrodden soft soaked leaves and bark scattered with gnarly sticks, apatchwork of bright green growth and desert daisies encouraged by recent rainsWeeping willows sway in the cool breeze and gently sweep the bank with their leafy tendrilsCome walk with me and learnIn a place where colourful river gums line the banks like sentries protecting a sacred forestWhere ancient shield and canoe trees tell a special story of this country’s first peopleAnd a midden of shells scattered on a cliff top is a poignant reminder of an age long agoWhere the murky waters of this majestic old girl hide the menacing carp while dwindling numbers of Murray Cod plead for protection to bureaucrats who have no earsAnd pelicans perch on boughs of sombrely gathered, lifeless trees, a testament to the ravages and wonders of torrential rains and life sucking droughtCome walk with me and listen to the music of natureWhere screeches of cockatoos rip through the silence and a whiny crow protests the peace with a drawn out faaaaaarrrrk!Where kookaburra’s crack jokes about colourful trekkers and the squark of a vibrant Mallee ringneck precedes a fleeting glimpse of aqua wings against olive foliageAn assortment of ducks rejoice in bountiful numbersAnd our presence is welcomed by the joyful twitter of the willy wagtailCome walk with me and experience our heritageWith guides who wear passion, devotion, and enthusiasm on their sleevesWith old friends and new we share respect for the Riverland, its fragility and complexityWhere the air fills our lungs with energy and we feel awe, regret and inspirationAnd red and white cliffs moulded into crevices and valleys provide a platform to reflect and herald a new day with a horizon streaked with sparkling rays of gold and orangeCome walk with me through time… in the bush, on the banks of the mighty MurrayBe forever mindful of that moment with those people in that place on the river trailShare the lessons, the experience, and the opportunities with othersAnd when the memories start to fade hum the haunting tune of Cohen’s HallelujahClose your eyes and imagine the crackling fire, the laughter, the quiet lap of the waters, and begrateful.
