I last went to Red Ochre about seven years ago and it was wonderful - the dining room was packed, the food was brilliant (and truly felt like fine dining), and the view was spectacular. It was expensive and worth every dollar.I went again tonight and was really disappointed. The lady who served us was lovely and attentive but that didn’t make up for the now-dated (and extraordinarily empty) dining room, the lack of atmosphere… and the totally average food!We ordered the bread and pork belly as entree, both of which were fine but no better than what you would expect at your average pub. For mains we had braised beef cheek with eucalyptus mash, gnocchi, and greens with edamame. I was quite startled by how much the food had gone downhill - the eucalyptus mash had little flavour, the braised beef cheeks were nice but I could have achieved something similar at home, and the gnocchi was uninspiring. The greens were essentially an over-dressed salad that you would find in your average suburban pub.It was slightly pricey at $155 total (albeit with a cocktail each) and both of us left feeling as though our money would have been better spent elsewhere.I give very few negative reviews (particularly given the tough few years hospitality has struggled through) but I think the Red Ochre has some self reflection to do… perhaps a new menu and a facelift or perhaps to decide whether it is a fine-dining restaurant or an affordable bistro with a nice view.

Service was very poor. We waited over 15 mins to get our first drinks. The entrees were not great, very dry and not exciting. My steak was cooked well but my partners' steak that was ordered medium was less than medium rare.Quite disappointing. Was told the view was amazing but the windows were so extremely dirty it took away from the ambience.Overall, disappointed with service and food, would rather have travelled to the Hills for better service and better views. We waited so long for drinks and table clearing. As it stands, not worth another visit.

It feels dated. They are still using the same orange glasses from 10 years ago. Food is ok, not exceptional, which for the price is what it should be. The entrees were probably the nicer than the mains and dessert were.

Yum! Very delicious food. We had the tasting menu and loved every dish! The portions were large and the ingredients were fresh!

I hadn't been here for years. A while back it was my go to. The atmosphere certainly hasn't changed - it's fantastic. It's still the same high end feel, with plenty of space between tables and perfect lighting. It was a cold May evening so the balcony was closed but I'm sure, when the weather is warmer, it's just as brilliant out there as it is inside. The view is probably one of the best in the city and not hindered by the fact you’re inside, the high ceiling and glass walls let you see everything. Our wait staff seemed a little inexperienced compared to what you would expect in such a nice place. Helpful, courteous and pleasant to deal with, just not as sharp as someone with more years under their belt. I'm guessing restaurants are just another industry that's been struggling to find staff lately. We'll definitely be back and soon. On our next visit I'm sure these guys will be perfect.Venues that have a free car park right outside their front door are rare these days. Red Ochre has a huge car park with plenty of space so you can park easily and not worry about someone backing into you because of a lack of room. Being able to casually pull in and walk a few steps to the front door is almost unheard of nowadays. The menu has been reduced in size since I was here last. But the options are still varied and the addition of the ‘let us feed you’ style dinner is welcomed. The meals we had were absolutely stunning. Octopus Carpaccio and Chicken Parfait to start – both perfect. The bread has always been amazing here and this was no exception. Mains were Gnocchi and Beef Cheek. I haven’t tasted Gnocchi that soft and fluffy since Andre’s Cucina. The wine was very nice but honestly if they could put the sauce from my Beef Cheek in a wine glass I would’ve drank that instead – it was delicious. The price was good too. We expected to be shelling out quite a bit but we had an amazing two course meal, two glasses of superb wine each plus a side for not much more than you’d pay for a pub meal. We’ll be back here. A lot. A+++

A nice restaurant with beautiful water view. Friendly staff, good & romantic atmosphere. We had the chef's choice to celebrate our anniversary. Lots of food, all were very delicious. Highly recommended.

2 stars for good hospitality and service, quite disappointed in the food for the price, room temperature meals plates weren't even warm. Mushrooms in one meal were definitely canned mushrooms, 2 pieces of asparagus with my $50 over cooked steak.

Horrible experience, the food was bland, over priced and you could tell it was precooked and freeze just to make things easy. There was not flavour or passion in the food, pastas were so overcooked that they stick together like a block of dough, beef cheeks were tasteless and with the feeling of been blanched with water just to get them hot, the crocodile was overcooked and pretty much rubbery. Also don’t let me get to the Point to talk about your glassware, it smell like an aquarium.

Mixed feelings about this fine dining venue. The place is beautiful and view spectacular. 1/2 the meals were delightful, the other 1/2 below average. The staff did their job, but not to a fine dining standard. The coffees were poor. I would love to feel more atmosphere.

This place is perfect for special occasion with good view over the river. I’ve heard that the sunset over here is magical, but my booking was after sunset, maybe I’ll come back next time with earlier timing. The food was great, esp the bread and the entrees was really exceptional. The mains were great as well but what really highlighted were the entrees. Very good selection of wine list too. The service and the attention were really good as well, the waiter will drop by every now and then to check if you need anything and if everything is ok. The atmosphere was a bit noisy as there’s so much chatting and laughing going around. So it may not be so ideal for business dinner if you wanna discuss something really serious but if you’re looking to please some important guests, this place will not fail you. Did I forget to mention their slow cooked lamb? It’s so flavourful and melt in your mouth, it gave us the wow effect when we put a bite into our mouth. Really really awesome!
