Jenolan Caves
The Jenolan Caves are limestone caves located within the west of the Blue Mountains, in Jenolan, New South Wales, in Australia. The caves are situated approximately 175 kilometres west of Sydney. The caves are the most visited of several similar groups in the limestone caves of the country, and the most ancient discovered open caves in the world. It has more than 40 kilometres of multi-level passages and over 300 entrances.By measuring the ratio of radioactive potassium and trapped argon gas, which was produced when the potassium decayed, scientists determined the age of the clay in the caves to be approximately 340 million years old, thereby making the cave complex the world's oldest known and dated open cave system.Caves name are: Lucas, River, Chifley, Imperial, Orient, Ribbon, Pool of Cerberus, Jubilee, Temple of Baal, Nettle Cave, The Grand Arch, Elder Cave, Aladdin Cave, Jersey Cave and Arch Cave. It’s fun to visit. It was in my bucket list for many years. Kinda disappointed after my visit. Unfortunately our tour guide was so rude and made our visit unpleasant. The cave entrance was expensive. $30 to visit just small portion of one cave with a rude tour guide. If I wanna be honest not worth the time and money specially we had to drive for 3 hours to get there.Aside the rudeness of our tour guide and being expensive for small fraction of one cave, the cave itself was beautiful and astonishing.

Went here on a trip with friends in May 2023. We chose to do two caves, the orient cave and imperial cave. The imperial cave was a wide cave, nice crystal formations but the highlight for me was the underground river the the turquoise water, that was amazing and looked so inviting. Of course no one is allowed to swim in there to preserve its beauty. The orient cave was truly beautiful. Compared to the orient cave, the crystal and rock formations here are truly stunning. The guide was also very knowledgeable and creative, pointing out formations and what they resembled. The kids on our tour loved that as they were also able to use their creative minds to form images of the formations. The drive accessing the caves at the moment is long and tedious due to several road works and closures in the area. There is a point where you will be prompted to stop and follow their vehicle down the steep and narrow road drive. There is ample parking in the area.Overall a very unique experience and I would be happy to check out other caves again (maybe once the road works are completed).

A definite must-see. Our Orient Cave tour guide David was great. Gave us enough time to do the tour without rushing. There are lots of steps, so you do need to have some level of fitness to go up and down. Is very claustrophobic, so I wouldn't recommend those struggling with tight spots.

Jenolan Cave is a stunning natural wonder that is definitely worth a visit. The breathtaking views and unique rock formations are a sight to behold. Unfortunately, the Blue Lake was closed during my visit due to rockfall, but there are still plenty of other caves to explore. I highly recommend pre-booking your cave tour to ensure availability. Overall, Jenolan Cave is a must-see destination for nature enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates natural beauty.

This place is amazing, highly recommend to take “Grand Tour” (available as of June 2023) - start from Orient Cave and all the way to the Temple of Bahl, it has quite a lot of steps though.Imperial Cave is also great, very easy and has underground river.Big shout out to the guides for very interesting sessions and providing answers to the countless questions coming from curious listeners

The stunning and breathtaking caves are definitely worth a visit, and you can explore them with a guided tour. However, please note that due to recent landslides, some attractions are closed, and an alternate road is being used with roadworkers as escorts.Unfortunately, we had an unpleasant encounter with a few rude and unpleasant roadworkers. They went as far as pretending to run us over with their truck and then slamming the brakes when we inadvertently walked the wrong way. The reception staff is aware of the issue and advised us to file formal complaints, as it seems to be an ongoing problem with these individuals.Despite that, the Orient Cave visit itself was a delightful experience, and I highly recommend taking a guided tour. There are multiple caves to choose from, and they are all well worth the price. Additionally, the area boasts abundant fauna, including sightings of a Lyre bird and wallabies.Just be prepared for the fact that the road to reach the caves is a bit remote, and you may encounter some unfriendly encounters with the burly men assigned as escorts.

The trip to Jenolan Caves now is quite lengthy due to road closures. If you enjoy driving, this will not be an issue. The drive is fairly engaging with a lot of elevation changes and windy roads, with the final section being one-way and escort vehicle only. Roads are not of the best quality, however even sports cars are able to manage just fine. The caves themselves were great. Even as someone with little interest in caves, it was still engaging and informative. Our guide Steve was also very engaging and friendly, while still maintaining professionalism and his duties in keeping everyone safe. I went to the Lucas Cave and while it was cool, it does get warm with all the steps. The ceiling of the caves can be a bit low so if you're on the taller side, do prepare to bend down for parts of the tour, however this is generally a non-issue. To not spoil too much myself (even though there's thousands of pictures already online), the formations look unreal and the light provided really brings out the best. The way out was quite quick. As the tour ended, it's best to quickly get back to the carpark and perhaps use the toilet ASAP to be able to catch the first set of escorts out. Unsure if this was pure luck or planned though.

We recently visited and did the Chifley Cave tour, it was great with an amazing and enthusiastic tour guide who gave lots of information regarding the caves, including scientific explanations on formations, as well as stories about their discovery. I highly recommend this visit and loved the entire experience! The tour is also not rushed at all so you have plenty of time to take it all in, take photos and ask questions.Book in advance as it was super busy and we were lucky to make a spot! When we went the road was closed for several km's and required a one way escort, it's fine only adds 20ish minutes but I recommend going early to ensure you are on time - there is a nice cafe with plenty of bits to eat + coffee so you will be comfy if you have a wait. Better to way and enjoy a brew than be late!

My friend and I visited the Temple of Baal cave. The tour was very well presented and organized. It is a great cave to explore, you can see and feel the magnificence of nature and time itself. The guide will explain how each formation is formed in millions of years. You will know the myth behind the name of the cave and how it was discovered.Overall, a great experience. There are several caves to explore, you just need to decide which ones you like since you have to pay for each one.If you wish to explore more, make sure you come here very early especially on a weekend. I suggest ordering the tickets online and come 1 hr before the tour
