I am a Novacastrian I was born & grew up in Newcastle Cooks Hill to be precise ...Bar Beach was my local & without a doubt the best beach in Newcastle.It is much better than Merewether BeachAt one end before Susan Gilmore beach it is safe for kids to swim as it has a kinda breakwater reef. & little rock pools.Then there is a place for adult Surfersu then reach Dixon Park for board riders.Keep walking 200 metres to reach Merewether Beach with the Ocean Baths

It is a beautiful beach to looks at. Surfers seem to love it, can see dolphins in evenings, and whales in the right time of year. Good parking, great facilitiesBUT the swimming beach out the front of the clubhouse is horrendous. The waves will just dump you over and overNobbys, Newcastle Dixon park redhead and blacksmiths all way better for a swim and body surf

A pleasant beach close to Newcastle city. It can get pretty crowded on a hot Summer day. Parking along the street next to the beach is for free, but hard to find a spot if it’s one of those busy days.

A very nice beach located near the city. Can get awfully crowded on a hot summers day. Bluebottles will tend to affect this beach during summer under a fresh northeasterly wind or a strong southerly wind.Watch for Rips. Waves tend to break on the reef and sandbank out the back but then develop into swell and sometimes reach the shoreline as a strong shore break so watch out if you have young kids at high tide and in moderate swells.But overall a very nice beach one of my favourites and great for everyone

The most magical place in the world. Watch out for Bunyips at night. Always swim between the yellow and red flags. Surfers watch out for submerged rocks on both sides.

If you like finding cool rocks I highly recommend this beach! I found some beautiful rocks here to take photos of. I only gave it four stars because I do not like sand.
