Had a vintage automatic Omega Seamaster serviced by Dennis at Balwyn Jewellers recently. Dennis offered a very competitive price compared to other watchmakers and the service was completed in a very timely manner. The watch is now running impeccably. I would recommend Dennis to others looking for an independent watchmaker.

Went in to get a quote and was actually shocked at how rude, abrupt and unpleasant the guy at the counter was. Reading previous reviews I am clearly not the only one that feels this way.If you guys need a jewellery repair service in the area - avoid this place and head to Danny Lee Designs on Doncaster Rd!** just a note on the owners reply as I can't respond directly - Yes agreed you provided a quote and said think about it but you were completely and unnecessarily unpleasant. Arguing with all the reviews stating you were rude isn't doing you any favours. Own it and be better?

I have a 120 year old pocket watch that came from one of my grandfathers. I don't recall it ever working, but feeling sentimental I thought it would be nice to see if it could be restored to working order. Dennis did just that, and it absolutely gleams. It is on proud display in my home.I then gave Dennis an old Bulova watch to refurbish. It is almost 50 years old (my 18th birthday present from my parents) and hadn't worked in many years. I had seen some examples of similar reconditioned watches he had done for others on line and decided to give him my watch. I am thrilled with the result. New crystal, all the nicks gone from the case, a new strap- beautiful!Dennis is a pro. I wonder if anyone else refurbishes and rebuilds old watches anymore? Thanks, Dennis.

Don't walk passed this quaint and unpretentious jewellery store. I brought in an Omega SMP quartz for a chat re servicing. Dennis made a few recommendations and I was comfortable to leave my watch to have a battery service and pressure test. I received the watch back promptly and the work was professional and done with alot of care without tool marks or residue.Dennis is a watch guy who I will trust with the rest of my Swiss quartz and mechanical watches. If you cant go to an authorised service centre, go to Dennis instead. Thanks Dennis.

Stay away from this place! Dennis was perfectly charming until he got my job, then he was arrogant and rude.He apparently completely refurbished my Dads watch and tried to give it back to me without the band. He insisted I gave him just the watch face on its own. He kept insisting saying he never got anything wrong. So I demanded to see the surveillance video of me dropping off the watch. He refused. Eventually he reluctantly put on a new watch band and after paying $550 forthe repairs... he refused to give me an itemised receipt of the works completed on my watch and written guarantee.Needless to say my watch is now loosing time and because it’s ‘out of 12 warranty’ he wants me to pay another $80 to service it!I explained I barely used the watch the entire year in 2020 due to Covid (as a health care worker we didn’t wear any jewellery due to infection control)Strictly speaking he is correct, but in truth I only actually used it for 9 months. He said ‘it’s an 70 year old watch, what do you expect’. It’s NOT 70 years old, and if he did in fact completely refurb it as he had said, I’d expect it to run perfectly for a few years at least.I had a gut feeling after I’d picked up the watch he hadn’t done a proper job. Turns out I was right!Which honest jeweller doesn’t give his customers an itemised receipt of works performed. He outright refused.I’m betting when I take my watch elsewhere to be serviced it hasn’t been rebuilt as he told me it had.He will negate all my claims, no doubt. But I strongly suggest you take your business elsewhere.Ps: he eventually found my original watch band. He had put it in someone else’s job bag. He had me in tears over it because he was so rude and argumentative... and not even an apology.

Dennis did a beautiful job restoring my father’s Longines, which has great sentimental value. I met him on the strength of a recommendation from a watch collector and couldn't be happier. Highly recommended.

I would stay away from this place unless you want your watch scratched. Walked in with two very mint watches for authentication but ended with two scratched watches. The worst is when he denied it but then went on and said there will be marks on the watch lugs but he’s too lazy to tell people that. I wouldn’t have gone ahead if I had known. The back case is also scratched even though when I went in there were no marks. Surprisingly the scratches look quite similar. After I pointed it out he dumped both my watches on the table and said even that would scratch it.Pretty disappointing experience especially when I paid for it. Yes watches are made for wearing and wear and tear may occur but there’s a difference between me scratching them myself and when a professional scratches it, denies it and still charges for the services.

Balwyn Jewellers (Dennis) performed a superb service on my vintage dive watch (it's mechanical), and in a turnaround of a week, unbelievable!I was fortunate that Balwyn Jewellers has a large stockpile of parts, which benefited me greatly when it came to my 1970's Caravelle Driver, quite a niche watch. Also, that they had the experience to service a rare watch like this.I wanted to go out of my way to write this because I appreciate the service I was provided, and for context, I'm a watch collector. I respect that others here may have had separate experiences based on their expectation of watches, a general assumption that watches are simple items to maintain, but that is simply untrue. Watches can be simple and they can be complex, it depends on the watch, and it's a quality watchmaker like Balwyn Jewellers (Dennis) who will be able to properly assess and bring your timepiece back up to speed (or time?).Would definitely recommend.

Had my grandfathers watch dial repaired by them overall great customer service and got my watch done before Christmas but a certain problem with post out of his control made it so that it was collected by me early January. I can't blame him for that and was very apologetic.Edit:Bought a vintage watch recently and He offered to polish the watch crystal free of charge after I posted it on Facebook. Can't thank Dennis enough

I read a number of negative reviews on Balwyn Jewellers and couldn't believe the comments. We have been a customer of Dennis for a long time. He remodelled my wife's rings superbly! I've had watches repaired, superbly! And now, our recently engaged daughter is taking her antique opal engagement ring left to her from my great grandmother for resizing and a clean! I know she will be looked after! Superbly! Be careful of the keyboard warriors and see for yourself!
