Yoga Mandir
Yoga Mandir is both a school and community of practice that I find difficult to describe, simply because the educative experience on offer is unparalleled in terms of its whole-ism. The curriculum is systematic and progression-based. Physical poses (asana) are used as the vehicle from which we learn to study ourselves and our personal fluctuations (i.e., perfection in the poses is not viewed as an 'end goal'). The use of props provides valuable feedback to help students of all experience levels and body types to understand the mechanics of the poses and provide adjustments/support where and when needed. I personally really appreciate how a pedagogical aim of the school (and its teachers) seems to revolve around supporting students' self-paced study and independence in their yoga journey from a life-long perspective. There is a very deep and rich philosophical tradition that's explicitly recognised and underpins practice at the school. Students are provided with additional, structured opportunities (e.g., online modules, lectures) to learn more about this in relation to their practice, if interested. Returning to my first point, I would say that this approach is a very refreshing one from an educative perspective because students are not only provided with an understanding of the 'what' and 'how' , but also given the time and space to ponder upon the 'why' in a secular manner. If this sounds like something of interest to you, I hope you'll take the time to experience some of the above for yourself!

Dear Yoga Mandir,Just a short message from Rishikesh-the home of yoga.I'm lucky to be back in India staying in this beautiful town doing the most radical of things in our society-NOTHING !!!! but sitting and watching the Ganges flow past.It seems that every second place I pass is offering 200hr teacher training courses. I've met students taking these courses who don't seem particularly happy. When I tell them that to qualify as an iyengar yoga teacher you need a minimum of three years ,I get looks of mortification. One student actually replied but I'm 28!!!"So I'm very happy attending Yoga Mandir because I know that the teachers have gone through a rigorous process

Yoga Mandir Yoga Studio, Mort Street, Braddon , ACTis a very inclusive, friendly place. I have attended an intensive programme there whilst I was injured with a torn cartilage in my left knee joint. I cite this to show just how the teachers and programs in this studio cater for people with a wide range of ability, and experience in Iyengar Yoga. The studio curriculum is structured to take students from beginners through to the teaching of Iyengar yoga. It is thoroughly professional in all aspects of its work. The resources offered to students are excellent in content and presentation.Classes are run before work, lunch times, after work and weekends.Specialist programmes are also run...CHECK THIS SCHOOL OUT.People come from all over Australia to participate in a variety of programs run by Alan Goode, a Senior Iyengar Yoga teacher who established this studio.Canberra is very lucky to have such an Institute of Learning so centrally placed.STUDYING REMOTELY!!!I live in an isolated part of South Australia. I recently signed up for the SADHAKA Progamme offered by Yoga Mandir Studio. This encouraged students to read more and to focus on the philosophy which underpins the practice of yoga and to become a daily practitioner of yoga. The resources and assistance offered to students is absolutely first class. As a person who has studied online a number of times I find this course stands out in its well thought out presentation to students.Videos, audio tapes of classes, recommended readings and easy access to staff bring Yoga into your home and life. it is a truly transformative experience.Thank you Yoga Mandir. I can practice at home and fly to Canberra for catch up with the friendly community there.

Yoga Mandir has been an important anchor in my life since starting in 2017. Thank you Alan and all the teachers at Yoga Mandir for sharing your knowledge and wisdom about how to integrate yoga into life. Yoga can be accessible to anyone and the Beginners Basics class is an excellent introduction for anyone curious about yoga.

Having moved to Canberra from Perth, WA, I received a warm welcome at Yoga Mandir. Here you'll find a vibrant yoga community thanks to the dedication of teachers and students to practice based learning delivered as classes, led practices and self-study options. Excellent meditation in action.

Yoga Mandir
Yoga Mandir provides a very high standard of yoga classes and yoga teachers. Anyone, of any level, any standard can go to Yoga Mandir and be in safe hands. There is no expectation that we need to be anyone but just who we are that day, with the body and mind that we have that day. The combination of asana and yoga philosophy provides us all with the 'tools' for everyday living. Over the many years of attending classes at Yoga Mandir I have learnt so much more than how to 'do yoga'. It has influenced a better way of living.

I attended Yoga Mandir classes from 2007 -2016. In 2016 I moved from Canberra to become a full time sailing vessel live aboard and hence have little access to classes. I am so grateful and feel very fortunate to have that opportunity as Yoga Mandir and Alan Goode taught me and empowered me to continue my yoga practice and my yoga growth on my own onboard. By the time I left Yoga Mandir for my new life I attended classes at Established practitioner level. I had previously attended yoga classes since 1992 and only managed my own practice sporadically and never mastered headstand or many other asanas for that matter.

I've been attending since 2005 and have not only been taught Yoga in classes but given the tools to develop a daily home practice. Students are also encouraged to apply traditional Yoga philosophy in their practice. This way of action and application has positively transformed my life in gradual and subtle ways. Yoga Mandir is transformative.
