Yang Guo Fu Ma La Tang 杨国福麻辣烫 - Garden City

Good selection of ingredients, so much to choose from. Nice flavoured broth which can be seasoned to taste, I like mine spicy - tastes like a laksa but with Sichuan flavours. Presentation doesn't look as appetizing because it's all thrown in to be cooked, but it's tasty though. Can get pretty expensive for a bowl of noodles if you get carried away but it's still cheaper than a hot pot restaurant.

This restaurant located in 8th street area in Garden City shopping center. Customers need to choose and collect the meats or veggies themselves and go to the counter to get them weighted. The average price is around 15-25 dollars, depending on the weight.Taste wise, it's ok and worth for that price range and you still can share between 2-3 people.

This place is the Best if you want spicy noodles. Add all you want from their display. However, you need to be careful, cos its easy to put too much in the bowl!

One of the worst experiences of my life. Wish I can rate it a 0 star. Never go here. There’s another hotpot serving better food and service for a cheaper price in the centre. As you can see from the photos, they serve their HOT soup in plastic containers. I had this today and the hot soup ended up all on the FLOOR and my HAND cause the plastic melted. The staff didn’t care about me at all and i left with a big burn on my forearm. All she said was sorry and asked me to deal with it myself. Proceeded to serve other customers and even had the audacity to ask me to move aside and wait for the manager to return in 30 minutes while my lunch was on the floor and my hand was burning. Never go here unless you want to pay overpriced and get bad customer service. Their food also seems to always have flies and bugs flying around and is a huge health hazard.

Unfortunately the classic soup base (Malatang Base with Ox Bone Broth) is not even close to the flavour and experience you get from the Sydney based franchises (Eastwood, Burwood & Sydney CBD ones are incredible!). Not sure why it'd be so different between Sydney & Brisbane, but it's a bit disappointing.If the owners read these reviews, it's a must that you bring the flavours you get in Sydney stores up to Brisbane. If you do we'd gladly come back to the Brisbane store in heart beat!

If you're in the mood for comfort food, or feeling a bit hungover, this hits the spot. Spicy noodles in a rich creamy broth where you get to select your own noodles, vegies and meat. You pick up a bowl and tongs then proceed to a cafeteria like line selecting your items where your bowl is then weighed at the counter. Minimum is $10 and you are charged for the container (50cents for a small and $1 for a large depending on how much you have selected). Once your meal is ready, you'll then be asked if you'd like to add chilli, sesame sauce, vinegar and salt and pepper. I got a massive bowl to share which was $18 and it was so delicious and filling.

The best malatang restaurant I think. I'm sorry that it's expensive, but I keep wanting to go. You can control the spiciness, and the staff puts in the sauce.

Finally had my first bowl of malatang thanks to a promotion that was on at 8 Street - one of the specials on offer was this deal from the new Yang Guo Fu Malatang store: $12 for 500g seafood combo + a can of drink. I felt it was a pretty decent list of ingredients: prawn, mussel, crab meat ball, fish ball, cheese & fish tofu, quail egg, wombok, Chinese mushroom, enoki mushroom, bok choy, bean vermicelli.After the ingredients are picked (by the staff) and cooked in the broth, you get the option of adding 2 sauces (can't remember exactly what they are) and finally the chilli. I went in for the sauces, and asked for about half the normal portion of chilli, as one of the reasons I've not rushed to have malatang is because I'm not a fan of the 'mala' itself - I do enjoy a bit of chilli kick but not this type that knocks you numb. My bowl had a bit of numbing sensation but nothing too drastic. Still not a big fan, but I'll leave the door open to try more when the mood strikes.My understanding is that this YGF is not related to the previous YGF store that occupied the same space the few years prior, and which closed down earlier this year. Time will tell whether this new one reaches similar levels of popularity amongst the Malatang loving population.

Firstly this place uses disposable plastic containers instead of reusable bowls. The containers are not environmentally friendly, more awkward to eat from, and they charge for the container too.When I was given my container, the amount of ingredients seemed less than what I selected, it’s like some went missing. The soup base was quite bland and flavourless, and very very oily too, and I had an upset stomach hours later.The only positive was they have a fairly good range of ingredients to select from.

Very delicious broth and a wide variety of ingredients. The only negative is the price.
