Can't go wrong with a brunch date with my wife. Great coffee paired with the chef dre big breakfast. YUM! Tip: Sit in the courtyard if you want to impress.

I very rarely review places but hoping that whoever runs Chez Dre sees this and takes the feedback on board. It’s been a while between visits, used to be such a great reliable but unfortunately it was really lacking this time. It was really quiet (maybe 10 people over 4 tables?) drinks arrived halfway through our breakfast. The server can only deliver items at the speed at which they’re given to them so this wasn’t the fault of the serving staff. The drink order was extremely basic (2x Bloody Mary’s) so no reason for it to come well after our food arrived. Whilst the food looked pretty, it was underwhelming. Dry and a little bland would probably be the best description. Perhaps a little shy with the ingredients overall (aware that costs of everything are reaching new heights, this may be a factor). We couldn’t drink the Bloody Mary’s in the end. Overwhelming amount of citrus we couldn’t finish them (had roughly half or less each) so we asked if at least one could be removed from the bill which they kindly obliged.Such a shame, the breakfasts there used to be so amazing hence our want to return but this was just a let down sadly.

I have visited this place many times in the past, and it has always been good.It used to be very busy in the past but not as busy when I visited recently. The food was good and so too was the coffee. The service was very good.

Guess who’s back, back again? My pick towas the warming porridge, keep your eye on the specials menu as there's always something pretty wonderful available. You may have to wait awhile for a table but nibble on a little something from the delectable pastry cabinet and the time will pass deliciously.RecentGiven this is probably the best cafe in the vicinity of my workplace we find ourselves here for the umpteenth time! As always the cake selection is fabulous here, what else would you expect from the French? The open kitchen creates a strong sense of atmosphere too. Today I actually also saw Nick Reiwoldt and another tv presenter so apparently it is also a hunting ground for the mildly famous. Smashed avo for the win today, yum!Further UpdateStill one of the best. Today I chose the French toast but found it a bit disappointing considering the proliferation of excellent French toast dishes on the current melbourne breakfast scene (and this is a French cafe after all). The pastries however will not let you down. Don’t forget to take some bread home, it's baked fresh on the premisesUpdateIt’s been over a year since my last visit to Chez Dre so I thought I would refresh the review as all of my old favourites are no longer on the menu. While there is certainly still delicious dishes to be had they need to bring back the classics! On this occasion I came for a team breakfast and we discovered you could actually book a table (on a weekday anyway).I had a eggplant and chickpea ragu with labne, poached egg and baguette. I liked that it was something a bit different although it was pretty pricey for breakfast fare at around $27 for the meal and beverage.Original reviewOne of my all time brunch favourites although I haven't quite forgiven them for taking the passionfruit butter off the menu a few years ago that used to come with the fruit toast. Nowadays I stick to the avo luxe which is one of my favourite avocado on toast renditions. It's whipped rather then smashed, with goats cheese and the silky texture pairs wonderfully with the added crunch of nuts and seeds.

We did a lot of research about where to find the best coffee in South Melbourne and @chezdrecafe came up as one of the best, so we went along to try it. We were not disappointed! The first time we went was for a take out coffee, but we loved the look of the food coming out so we made a second trip back.I had their version of eggs Benedict with a side of avocado and it was delicious. It was obvious that quality ingredients are used. The meals were all put together beautifully. The juice and coffee were also fantastic. The service was friendly but slow and we had to chase items a few times. It did however look like they were short staffed which may have been why.The cafe itself is a warehouse style and very comfortable. It was a great set up of you have bigger groups too. This is somewhere I will definitely return to on future visits back to Melbourne.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Chez Dre, and I must say it was a delightful experience. The staff were incredibly attentive and made me feel very welcome from the moment I stepped in. The atmosphere was cozy, with a charming interior that created a perfect ambiance for a lazy brunch. Now, let's talk about the food. The menu had an impressive variety of options, and I decided to try the lobster roll. I must say, it was one of the best I have ever had! The bread was perfectly toasted, and the lobster was fresh, sweet, and cooked to perfection.Overall, I had a fantastic time at Chez Dre, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great brunch experience. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was lovely, and the staff was attentive, making it a memorable visit. I cannot wait to return and try more of their menu.

Delicious food as always. New menu. Renovated space and courtyard. Coffee always excellent. Child and pram friendly.Warm and welcoming staff.Had the baked Camembert special, the Breakfast board and Baked Eggs.Toasties are lovely along with, golden folded eggs & pastries and sweets from Bilbleot.Addit: still delivers delicious food, lovely space. So many menu options sweet and savoury bites & coffee excellent. Less busy on weekdays if you want to try it out without the queue, personally still worth a little wait. Tip: Pop in to Bibleot after and take home a gorgeous dessert, cake, macaroons, chocolate or pastries.
