Stonehead Reserve

In the late 70's or early 80's, the head was discovered by Sonny Burton the bricklayer (doing a small job in the park). He grabbed his best mate Henry Angus the plumber from O'sullivan road and they manhandled it out and up. During the process, screams were heard coming from a boy who had fallen from a tree and was hanging upside down with his foot stuck in the V of the branch. The head was face down, more than knee deep when found. It had a crack running through it which is why it is in two pieces. There were digging a footing trench for a small wall which was being built... long gone now from the photos. I was there and saw it being unearthed. I always wondered if it was somehow related to the weird core holes and carved rocks found in Smiths creek.
