Popped in on my lunch break and had such a great experience! The staff are so passionate and know so much about the artwork, the artists and their stories. Highly recommend visiting!

I currently work at an Indigenous art gallery in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) and while visiting Melbourne I got excited when I passed this gallery and immediately recognised some works by artists that I see and work with personally on a regular basis. I brought my sister in and was so excited to show her the type of art I get to see at my job. Unfortunately I had an odd experience with the woman working there - as soon as I mentioned I worked in an Indigenous art gallery in the NT, she abruptly cut me off, saying that if I was “in the industry” then she “didn’t have time”, and then proceeded to talk at me about the art being online and that she was looking to hire an Indigenous man (??) without letting me or my sister get a word in edgewise, before leaving us to browse. I understand being busy and not having time to chat if there isn’t a direct sale involved however I felt quite dismissed and condescended to. It’s a shame as in my job and with most galleries (in the NT at least) it’s always such a pleasure to share (even briefly) in a passion and appreciation for the beautiful artwork, however I didn’t get a sense of that at all. Even my sister found the entire interaction very strange and we left shortly after, feeling quite put out. I am not well versed in the Indigenous galleries of Melbourne so I am not certain of this establishment or how it might work differently from the NT, however if you’ve gotten to the bottom of this review, I usually recommend as a rule of thumb to check for memberships of ethical bodies such as the Art Association of Australia.

Such a lovely experience learning about the Aboriginal people and the indigenous way of life.The ladies in there were so knowledgeable and really helpful.Such a wonderful experience would definitely recommend going in and checking it out.

Michelle is very informative in explaining the arts to us. She is also helpful in recommending art pieces. Unfortunately, the piece I liked did not have the size I wanted; otherwise, I wouldn't have walked out empty-handed.

Authentic and Beautiful pieces of Aboriginal Art! The Gallery is a MUST VISIT! Sorry, you will walk out with a purchase for sure! The Curator, Alexis Hesseen is beyond knowledgeable and passionate about the many pieces in the Gallery! Do stop in for a chat with her and some real-talk about Aboriginal Art. I’m so happy to have stayed in the neighborhood of this gallery; it was an easy walk!

The young lady that attended to us was very helpful and had a wealth of information to help us with our decision. There was a great variety of stock on display and all this will probably make our decision easier.
