A very colorful place, caused a lot of emotions, but I will say that I was impressed. Incredible amount of sculptures and art objects. The pictures were quite depressing, which created an atmosphere of isolation. In general, the museum is very interesting and large with patios. I think this is one of the most impressive places in the city.The only thing was that there was not enough information about the place and history, I would like that they would give out a brochure or there was a website with history.

the gaol is a really nice place but there is just too much art to focus on any one thing, at times it just feels like a storage facility, please i ask you to tidy it up so you can walk around easier and focus on the art

Didn't enjoy it at all, advertised as castlemaine old gaol but all you get to see is art in all the cells and outdoor areas. Should have signs that it is an art gallery inside of a gaol. If you are expecting to see cells set up and any other gaol rooms set up don't bother going. You are unable to go up stairs either as they are blocked off. Before people buy tickets you should be telling them it is an art gallery not what the goal was like. The way it is now is how they make their money by not telling people what is inside.Very very dissappointed and would not recommend visiting

We visited a couple of weeks ago after being told about David Bromley's collection at the Daylesford Gallery. This is definitely a must do if you are in the area, such an amazing use of this historic site combined with such wonderful art work. If only the walls could talk, the work gone into restoring this building and grounds is a credit to all involved.

An ABSOLUTE MUST SEE if visiting Castlemaine - or a sufficient reason on its own to visit the town. David Bromley's collection is AMAZING. It is even more stunning in this truly unique space. Just GO!

A bizarre mish-mash of art and sculpture housed in a historical setting. A real hodgepodge with seemingly not much at all to link it together and a lot of repetition along the wayIt's a real pity that this museum" seemingly seeks to mock it's own surroundings with pop culture references instead of history. Wow
