Boyne Tannum HookUp

I know this committee would have done a lot of work before this weekend. And I applaud them for that.but as a local that has been in every hookup except 2 because my son had cancer this is by far the worst hookup ever.By changing it to you have to weigh in a fish to be able to win the major prize you have destroyed this competition.I have noticed attendance crowds have been down drastically in both locations and after talking to food and drink vendors most will probably not come back and as I usually volunteer for a local vendor/ community service at the hookup this has been devastating for themToday Sunday we had the Boyne river so crowded you needed traffic lights and not many people were catching a fish big enough to weigh in.so I fear the present committee has destroyed a great event that bought in a lot of money for the community like the old saying goes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it .

The largest family fishing competition in Australia takes place around Boyne Island on the first weekend of May every year.This is a casual, fun event, aimed at bringing family, friends and workplaces together.The Boyne Tannum HookUp has a long list of categories, from catching and releasing tagged barramundi in Lake Awoonga, to a sort of treasure hunt at Gladstone Harbour where you have to solve clues and riddles to find out what fish species has been tagged.With a prize pool of more than $230,000 there are all kinds of generous payouts, organised by fish species and the age of competitors.

Enjoyed our first Hookup this year. Great environment and facilities. Good was great. Maybe a little more entertainment for the kids. Also the Sunday night needs to be capped at 830pm.. dragged on a bit. I feel if it was presented a bit differently the audience would have been engaged more, resulting in more clapping for prize winners. Over all, can't wait until next year!

Hookup is a great event. Keep it going!We are not big fishermen, but it's a great event. Very exciting to see all the fish. Lots of activities.Live music and entertainment was great fun. Having the courtesy bus was excellent.I'd suggest better food truck options as the food was a bit limited mostly deep fried stuff.Previous years there was tables and chairs set up and this was good, disappointed that we had to bring our own chairs to sit at to eat. But overall a great event in spite of the rain.

The jetty is good as it's the only place I can access in my wheelchair or mobility scooter. Down side is there's no shade/shelter.

Great community Event. Australia's biggest fishing compitition.The town comes alive with fishermen, woman and children from all around Australia.Great entertainment and food stalls as well. There is a courtesy bus provided for this event to get you to and from the park which sits right up against the beautiful Boyne Island River.
